Yes, thats absolutely right. Please see my post across on the FS 20/05 thread that I posted just a few minutes ago for an update on where things stand in North Oxford.

Can't remember if this has been posted already so apologies if this is old news. The SD website now says 'Steam Hauled' in place of 61306 until the end of August, excluding the 21st August trip to Norwich, which still has the B1 rostered... for how long is anyone's guess!

Oh dear, it sounds like there is more work to do on her than expected then. I wonder if Carnforth will be sending a substitute?

A new trip has appeared for the 9th July - Southend to Worcester (instead of Brighton which I think was cancelled due to enginering works).

Why are Steam Dreams still discriminating against solo passengers who want to travel in First or Premier Dining? Tables for 2 can only be booked for "Parties of 2 only".

Probably because there are so few singles who want a table for two that it means the loss of the revenue from the second seat with no single to fill it. It's called maximising your seating capacity.

I was told last Saturday ( and the website confirms it) that the trip on the 28/8 to Matlock/Rowsley no longer stops at Loughborough, so it looks like it is going via Grantham and Nottingham instead of via Stamford and Melton Mowbray.

This trip has the potential to be one of those rare Steam Dreams events this year when the train is steam hauled with no assistance. If Braunton can manage it with the RTC and WCRC then there is no reason why SD can't.

Hopefully one of the Brits will be available since Tangmere mostly seems to run with a Diesel out of London ( Although that could be on the WSSE or RD that weekend), and Braunton will be in Bristol. I believe there is a restriction on axle loading the bridge over the Derwent at Matlock Riverside so that nothing heavier than a Brit or Bulleid is allowed.

The trip Liverpool Street to Norwich and Lowestoft the previous weekend to the Matlock trip) has disappeared this week, I expect due to Mayflower being unavailable. It was due to be load 9/10( A fellow passenger asked last Saturday)

From the SD website planned tours for next year : -

    The Flying Scotsman to Edinburgh
    May 2017
Following the popularity of our 2016 trip to Edinburgh with Flying Scotsman, we are planning to use the famous engine to journey from London to Edinburgh once again and enjoy 3 nights and 2 full days in Scotland's capital.

On day 1, our journey begins at London Kings Cross in the morning, diesel hauled, and we travel up the East Coast Mainline towards York. From York, we will travel with Flying Scotsman high over the city of Durham, past the Angel of the North, and over the River Tyne in Newcastle before jouning the beautiful coastal route towards Edinburgh.

On days 2 and 3, there will be optional excursions by steam over the Forth Rail Bridge and by road coach to local distilleries or National Trust properties.

On day 4, our train returns from Edinburgh after breakfast, this time taking the route along the West Coast mainline towards Carlisle and the Settle & Carlisle Railway. From here we will be whisked back to London by modern traction.

    and
    The Devon Belle
    Thursday 6 - Sunday 9 July 2017
An opportunity to enjoy a 3 night mid-summer break in the beautiful South Devon resorts of Dartmouth and Torbay. The Devon Belle also celebrates 50 years since the end of British Rail steam in the South of England.

On Thursday 6 July our journey begins at London and we travel along the South Western Main Line through some of the most beautiful countryside in Southern England. This run, of course, includes the beautiful views of Dawlish before we head inland for the climb along the edge of Dartmoor takes us along the scenic Dartmouth and Kingswear Railway.

On day 2, Friday 7 July, you can enjoy a day trip by steam to Penzance, or join other optional excursions.

On day 3,Saturday 8 July, excursions will include trips by road coach to Greenway House, the South Devon Railway and boat trips from Torbay.

On day 4, Sunday 9 July our train returns from Devon retracing our steps to Exeter. From here we head to Weymouth, for a short break by the seaside. Leaving Weymouth we replicate the last main line steam journey to London from the South, which took place exactly fifty years be

There was a leaflet of a another planned tour 3 or 4 day with 60103 Salisbury to Norfolk next June on the trip the day trip I was on lasT month.

6201 now listed for all except Swanage trip, which states refer to boooking office, so will either be postponed or cancelled.

It is even listed for the Matlock and Peak Rail trip, which surprises me, because I though the bridge over the Derwent at Matlock Riverside had a limited axle loading.

I'm also rather surprised about 6201 being used on the trip from Lewes on 20th October. The SD wesbite suggests steam throughout on the outwards journey, but the tunnel at the London end of Lewes station is on quite a tight curve. Tornado has been through it but Lizzie is somewhat bigger.

Wouldn't be surprised if the locos gets changed again before then. Wasn't Bittern pulled from a train from Lewes in 2011 when it's valances were added despite hauling a few trips on the Brighton Line previously (70000 hauled it in the end). Lizzie is quite a wide loco so wouldn't be surprised if she's deemed out of gauge.

It will be interesting to see how many of the trips 6201 actually appears on if she suffers the gauging problems that seem to be affecting many other loco's of a similar size. What do you bet she spends most of her time allocated to Southall stuck in the shed at Southall as she can't go where she was supposed to?

Although SD is continuing to offer day trips, do I detect an increase in 'short holiday' trips? So far this year we have had the Scotsman to Scotland, Cambrian and soon the Emerald Isle. Now we can see the highly significant July 9th 2017 has been bundled into a three night event in the West Country with the symbolic final run up from Weymouth as the finale.

So if you want to be part of something special then you will have to part with quite a lot of cash to join the bigger excursion. I'm not saying that's a bad idea but it is aiming at a particular market. At least what it does, unless WCRC is going to pull something completely out of character out of the hat, is to relegate passengers to a 50th anniversary ride up to Bincombe with a diesel pushing at the back and an extra 120 tons of available assistance for the rest of the trip - Pokesdown, Roundwood etc.

I think I'll wait for the UKRT event with Clan Line.

According to last months Steam Railway, Marcus told Tony Streeter that the plan is for 35018 to be banked by 48151 out of Weymouth. Although there will be some diesel haulage on the 4 day trip.

Well that's nice to know but there's only 13 months to get it to happen.

I have a feeling that the boiler ticket on 48151 runs out later this year? But I could be wrong...
