Looks like they found one. The way things are turning out, maybe they'll need a whole box!!!!

Still, this will be the TBE to savour from the current season's programme. No doubt about it.

  7. Each to their own I guess. it wont beat 46100's performance on its second Torbay. that was just cracking!

    :Saywhat:

Come on folks, think positive. The glass in half full etc. etc.

The locomotive will be powered by coal and water. Do I have to say any more? <BJ>

  11. Not being critical Bill, I guess I just like the bark of a GW locomotive. I shall still be out lineside because as you say its powered by coal and water! ;-)

Sorry, really deeply sorry, about that;). Especially as I don't do confrontational, adversarial, or vitriolic. Hadn't detected the totally unfortunate inference.

And in that very same spirit, to Evening Star 92220 I would just say, Yes, the performance of 46100 did push the bar pretty high on the second Torbay, and that performance fully deserved all the acclamation that it rightly got on this forum. Could it be exceeded? Yes, I think so, with 8P power, sewing machine reliability, decent coal and a well managed firebox. Lets just wait and see what happens on 7th August.

Let's get a bit of perspective here. The Scot's run was good but far from the best TBX in recent years even for a Class 7. Both Braunton and the Brit have bettered it, and Tornado is in a different class with 11 or 12 up.

Agreed. There are all sorts of motives for people to opt for the dining car; obvious ones being birthdays and wedding anniversaries but also a life partner who won't go on a steam train unless it's comfortable enough for him/ her, or just happen to be wealthy and enjoy good food in style - we all enjoy a sense of occasion, and good luck to all who can afford it. Their fares keep the show on the road, and like the rest of us they want what they've paid for.

Quite wrong. I usually travel as a dining passenger and there are invariably plenty of enthusiasts in the coach.

Sitting at Tyseley without air brakes so cannot be used on a DBC gig anyway.

Getting back to 46100, the Icons of Steam website has now been updated after being down for a few days. The news page reports that 46100 failed with a problem with her exhaust steam injector and the support crew tried to fix it. She has now been taken back to Crewe for further repairs and investigations to be carried out before she heads to Scotland.

But hard to justify cost when a Devon day rover is £10
