But surely as a true believer, you must welcome the appearance of 34081 in the colour that God OVS himself ordained? :)
Beware the BBLS gang, a right load of nutters and what ever you do, don't allow Kingsley to make the tea.

Not really sure why, but there is something that I find particularly attractive about the 1948 to 1963 period.

Whilst it would have been good to have been born 30 years earlier than I was, the down side would be now being aged 83....:)

    (With apologies to any 83-yearolds)

    Robin

Looks like 34052 is the only loco facing Swanage for the event.

As observed by our team at Swanage so unless they turn her, she'll be facing Swanage when the event kicks off.

Having been helping to organise galas for 10 years now I can guarantee there is some serious costs without even asking for specifics. But that doesn't change the fact that to some people, however you paint it (paying twice for the same event / paying £40 for a single day etc etc) the full package available is not appealing. Especially when you consider most events are around the £25 mark.

A comparison for example on face value - SVR had 10 locos along 16 miles for £26.50 inc evening travel. SR is 6 along 9(?) miles for £30 + additional £10 for evening travel. Which is the better deal? Yes ok SVR had nowhere near the same level of costs for transport, but is that really the customer's issue? If someone decides the deal on offer is not for them, do they really deserve derision on here?

A post on SR Facebook confirmed that 34052 will face South, all others will face North.

But this is not "most events" - 5 Bulleids gathered to commemorate the end of steam 50 years ago is to my mind something really special, as well as being very costly. If someone chooses to tell Nat Pres that they think it is overpriced then they cannot be surprised if others disagree and choose to say so.

Without wishing to enter into the debate about costs etc, does anyone know if PRIV tickets are valid this weekend? I've not seen anything to suggest they are or not.

Not sure about Golden Arrow regalia although I would expect 34092 to carry it some point over the weekend but the reason she's practically volcanic is because the loco has been fitted with a Giesl ejector which gives off a more volcanic look when the loco is running (I assume the Giesl is fitted as it was in the 80's).

34081 arrived facing Swanage but was turned on Wednesday afternoon to face London.

Sunday is "named train Sunday" so I assume a number of headboards will get an outing. We've loaned our Man Of Kent for the day but not sure what other ones will e used.

  18. I'm bringing '27 Taw Valley with me on Sunday, well an image of her nameplate on my green sweatshirt at least.

The last time I saw five Bulleid light Pacifics in one day was at Barry scrapyard. Before that, from Ashley Road bridge next to Boscombe station in 1966 or '67. Really looking forward to Sunday and being back on my home patch surrounded by my favourite engines.

I travelled on the very last BR train on the Swanage branch and never could have imagined then that such an event as this weekend's would take place 45 years later.

The only railways listed in the current Restrictions document are MHR (Santa & Thomas), Bluebell (January - february planned works warning), East Lancs (Santas), & NYMR (Dining Trains & Royal Scot event). Nothing listed for Swanage.
