According to my Rail Atlas ( 2013) the single track sections are Barhead to Lugton, and Lochridge Junction to Kilmarnock.

When the Great Britain has been on this section it has been on a weekday.

Addtional Info : - Have looked at National Rail enquires there is a half hourly service on Weekdays and Saturday and an hourly service on Sundays.

Well, there's only the equivalent of 2 TSOs left in Standard (127 seats), so on the proviso that it will be a ten-coach set (not counting RU for premier dining and support coach), then the equivalent of one TSO and the RMB in Standard Class has already been booked up at this early stage. At the end of the day, I'll be happy to get a trip to Scotland on the WCML, which is a rarer occurrence than on the ECML. As long as I have a fighting chance at getting to Bristol the next day for 34067 in the Valleys, then its all good.

I have been given a copy of the report in Railway Observer? from the original Scottish Lowlander, these are in PDF format as it seems to reproduce better.

Thanks for that Ralph - a good read. Let's hope there is as good a tale to tell this September

As expected, seats are selling like hotcakes on this one. Less than 50 in standard and less than 55 in dining. About a carriage and a half left in first (less than 80). And that's after being on the market for only four weeks. There must be some sort of record in this somewhere...

That doesn't surprise me as it's a brilliant trip. I haven't booked yet as the timings look as though it'll involve accommodation at each end of the day. I know that these timings (Crewe - 0730 out and 2240 back) can only be indicative but I really would like to know whether this is something NR is confident about. It feels to me that there is massive potential here for 'mission creep'. So whether it is actually possible remains a big question mark in my mind - especially once Milton Keynes gets its hands on it and attempts to slot everything in plus service the locomotive. A bit worrying actually.

Having seen this advertised just had to book on this tour - if it runs as planned its going to be one hell of a trip. Let us hope that the booked motive power and routes are all available on the day (fingers, arms, legs etc all crossed!).
The advertising blurb reads 2 hours in Edinburgh but the approx. timings only show an hour. Either way - I only need enough time to get some supplies for the journey back!

If the on-line booking is to be believed - now only 35 seats left in standard class...

Just booked this myself. It could be an extraordinary tour, which is why I thought it to be worth it despite the considerable cost for standard. The odds on it running as planned might not be great, but it's worth the risk.

Well, nearly two months after initial advertising, and there's only seven seats left in Standard, 27 in First and 80 in Premier Dining. Already looking forward to it, and hope something can be sorted out regarding the A4 situation at Carlisle by then. As for the cost of standard, considering you're getting two engines in one trip and 500+ miles of steam for only £30 more than some of their 'normal' tours has to be a bargain.

If the ban on the A4's still persists at the time this train runs the loco change could take place to the North of the station, in the Kingmoor area. The A4 could pass through Carlisle station engine and POB using the through lines on the Western side which I believe go nowhere near a platform edge whilst the Duchess takes the train through the station, the procedure being reversed on the return.

I was thinking along the same lines, but didn't want to speculate.

It is my understanding that A4s ARE now permitted through at least a couple of the platforms at Carlisle. No doubt this will, hopefully, be confirmed via official sources in due course.
NOW, all we really wish to know is precisely WHY Jubilees are barred from the Cumbrian Coast route, but Royal Scots appear to have no such issues!

Well, only five seats left in Premier Dining for this one.

I believe that an extra coach has now been added since there were quite a few people on the waiting for cancellations list....

So 56 Standard seats left with the extra coach. Presumably, this will take the carriages up to 13 including POB, so c.480-500 tons? Looking like a potential contender for 2009's 'Royal Scot' over Shap, but without the diesel.

I was rather hoping that no one would mention that dreaded word that begins with a D! I sincerely hope that one isn't included in the consist on this tour...
