I have sometimes wondered if that was counterproductive - that indeed it made the P2 look more finished than it actually was which may have impacted upon fundraising.

I think that provided that there are no restrictive structures and the line side is maintained the risk is low until the person gets to their waist. I am not a guard, but I have twice halted my train and walked back to have a few choice words...

You often hear and see things written in the railway press regarding the losses being incurred by a number of heritage railways, some of these reaching the hundreds of thousands of pounds mark which is quite frightening really, and it isn't of...

From KESR Facebook page... "After a brief holiday in Devon Marcia is returning home. For the last 61 years the 101-year-old locomotive – one of the smallest operational standard gauge locomotives in the UK – has called the Kent & East Sussex...

That is wonderful news, as far as I'm concerned Marcia is as much a part of the K&ESR as anything that 'The Colonel' was invoved in, and has spent 60 per cent of 'Her' life under K&ESR auspices.

I suspect that the fact Tangmere is pretty much the only loco able to run out of Carnforth at the moment has a lot do with it. Further investigation implies time & that is something 34067 and her hectic schedule have little of..

So true and at least Tangmere looks respectable when out and about. And as you imply, it's one of few locos that can haul such trains. Given that there is nobody with engineering expertise at 10A commenting on here we don't actually know why they...

I don't think West Coast can afford for Tangmere to have any downtime at the moment! So long as it moves and makes steam that is probably sufficient for them!!

That climb was memorable with 11 on that would not normally be allowed to go to Dorchester with a Class 7 unassisted. But the diesel failed, Pete Roberts was driving and Tangmere was in good nick so the rest, as they say, is history. If I recall...
