4464 arrived this evening - nearly 3 hours early (Mr Cubitt clearly welcomed the chance to bring an A4 down the Esk Valley without 6 foot of snow on the ground!)

Good to see 60007 listed as a "Planned Loco"

Same question as above! Only really going for the Q6, with a couple of others as a bonus. Happy to pay the £1 to find out if it's got a decent diagram on any given day, less happy to do a 300 mile drive to find it sits on freights or New Bridge all day!

Ditto. The NYMR have been known to use one loco purely on freight (rather than swapping locos between freight and passenger trains, which gives more variety for both linesiders and passengers). Also, it would be good to know which days (if any) 69023 has passenger turns.

As far as I know, it is planned that 69023 will operate the Grosmont - Goathland and Pickering - Levisham passenger shuttles on the advertised dates.

I am advised that locos in use on Friday are likely to be:

    825
    4464
    45407 (leaves Saturday)
    69023
    75029
    80072
    92214

70000 may make it but only arrives by road Thursday, so more likely to make Saturday.

It is hoped 60007 may make the second weekend but further work is needed.

63395 may still also make some appearance at some stage!

This uncertainty is why no advance loco diagrams are available.

Never thought 60007was going to make this gala, but why did NYMR update it's website on the 29th. with Gresley included when it was known that more work would be needed on the 28th?

Even more to the point is why has the official site not even been updated with this news today? This is something I find indefensible.

The chances of it even making the 2nd. weekend are remote, I am told by someone connected with the locomotive.

There seems to be a lot of uncertainty about what is actually going to be happening. One wonders if NYMR know what is happening. From what I understand from someone who has spoken with staff on the phone at Grosmont, they don't seem to know what is going to be running till it couples on to the coaches. Not much good if your driving a several hundred mile round trip especially for a certain loco. I really hope that the event turns out to be a huge success for the railway and also the surrounding areas and that the star studded loco line up lives up to expectations.

There are various parties involved - the A4 Society, their insurance inspectors and a specialist contractor as well as the NYMR.

It is planned to give a formal news update later today when firm news is available.

On both occasions, it initially appeared that the repair had been successful after both the latest repairs, and the loco achieved a test trip to Pickering before problems emerged during disposal on Saturday. Hence, for much of the past couple of weeks, the appearnce has been either "on" or "possible", the latter being the current situation.

Look on the bright side, wonderful loco 60007 is and I hope it's problems are trivial and easily solved, but there is already an A4 running in the line up. If a second one doesn't make it we have the chance of a more varied range of motive power for the day. Variety is the spice of life, get on and live it.

From another place (Yahoo email list)
    Planned locos in use on Friday;

    "825
    4464

I'm sorry to be critical but considering this is such a major event for the line, the information and organisation of locos has been a bit of a shambles. For most events locos and allocations are not that important, but the whole point of a steam gala is to come and see the steam engines. If you simply have no idea if the ones advertised will be running, many will not turn up, or if they do and they are NOT running, there will be annoyance and complaints, all of which could be avoided by proper communication and marketing information.

I think that the info that you have quoted tells it like it is, pretty well. Isn't that what you are after - communication? People are working damned hard to put on the best show possible. Seven locos out on the Friday takes a fair bit of beating, in any case.

If only this information had been put in the public domain in the first place, rather than posted by Steven Hogg on the NYMR unofficial forum.

And at post 49 on this thread (and in other places we don't talk about!). We aim to serve!

Seriously, surely the fact that extra information appears on NP and other Forums is part of their life-blood - people feel they can post what is hoped to happen whereas "official" statements need perhaps a greater degree of certainty before they appear on the official railway website.

Following the latest update to members, do not expect to see 60007 in action at either weekend of the Moors gala, repairs next week, followed by another steam test followed by running trials.................................................

Have you got something against the NYMR - the plan is for a repair this weekend (and I understand method now agreed with all concerned) with a hope of running the following weekend - that is the aim. Has the members update said the loco definitely won't be available for the 2nd Gala weekend or is that supposition on your behalf? If the latter, then I suggest you should make this clear as being your opinion rather than part of the A4 statement.

Nothing against the NYMR and if you read the Trusts statement they are very careful not to make any commitments as to date for the return to steam and are careful not to raise hopes for your second weekend.

I also note that your promise of a statement on the website of the NYMR has yet to come to fruition, so the gala details are still misleading. As a member of the Trust board of the NYMRHRT may I suggest you busy yourself with putting you own house in order rather than attacking someone trying to give people who may be planning on spending money on Fuel accommodation and tickets for the gala a reasonable perspective of what may happen rather than being content with mis-leading them.
