Port Talbot 813 heads south

    Unique Port Talbot Railway 0-6-0ST No. 813 will be making its first ever visits to both the Kent & East Sussex and Bluebell railways.

    The locomotive, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of its arrival at the Severn Valley Railway on November 25 with a brake van special, will head to the KESR to assist with the line’s ‘Santa Special’ season.

    Booked for nine steaming days on the Colonel Stephens light railway, No. 813 becomes the second GWR locomotive to visit the KESR this year, following ‘Manor’ No. 7822 Foxcote Manor during the summer.

    Next year, the 1901-built Hudswell Clarke engine will be visiting the KESR’s neighbour, as it has been booked to attend the Bluebell Railway’s ‘Branch Line Weekend’ gala on May 19/20.

    No. 813 returned to steam on August 9 last year after a six-year overhaul, having last steamed in September 2009. Based at the SVR, the 0-6-0ST has visited both the Didcot Railway Centre and East Lancashire Railway this year.
