    Hello,
    Well I am open minded..........
Would a SVR Wagon Dept official camera help?
If so will happily provide one.

Not really, its someone having the time to use a camera (and remembering to bring it) that is the issue. A lot of Grahams pics are taken after we have finished for the day or during a break.

Hope you all had a fantastic bank holiday, you'll be pleased to know that work has been progressing well on 13154.
Graham's picture of the old brake gear shows just how worn it had gotten, and why it needed replacing, this is a picture of the first lot we did, the worn out hangers from which have now been repaired, and are now riveted to the opposite side of the wagon to the one which they came off. The keen eyed of you will realise that this now leaves me with a spare set, which in turn will be repaired to give me ahead start on the next vehicle which needs them.
The worn pins that are shown in the same pic are now residing in the skip, having been replaced along with the drop links and push rods. Discussion turns to what to do to the old push rods, repair or replace? There will be a few more stories like this as a few more wagons will be getting the same repair.
The brakes are now set, and this part of the project is now complete, and hopefully I can get a few bits made for the next one!
The lads have been progressing well with the body, some of the door planks have been found to be damaged and Martin is progressing well with replacing them, so hopefully the floor will be next.
The keen eyed of you will notice that the wagons are missing from Number 1 siding, and have appeared at Highley, the reason for this is so that the Rudds can stretch their legs on diesel gala, hopefully this will attract some of you who wouldn't normally attend the diesel weekend, I might even see you for a pint on Saturday!
    Have fun
    Olly

    Hello,
Photographs of wagon restoration are a bit like Rocking Horse pooh.
Certain groups fund these restorations and are only to happy to shout about it.
The best way to shout is with a photograph.
It also helps and promotes any wagon Dept....web,social media,magazines........unsung folk singing out loud.
So an offer of a camera was not said in jest.:)
A picture is worth 1000 words?

I agree, pictures are such a help in explaining thing, and break up larger chunks of text as well. Nick, I think virtually all aspects of wagon restoration on GWSR are covered in as much detail as you need on our blog.

    Hello,
I agree, yet I am mystified as to what is a Skeleton Van.
I cannot say that I am that anal to know all telegraphic codes for all uk railway wagons and vans......

The strange attachment on the Goods Brake van I think is called a ducket.

Still always happy to be corrected....

I suspect it will always be known as that from now on, even when it gets its plywood sheeting!

Thanks, I appreciate the offer, as I have already said, the problem is not lack of photographic equipment, the problem is lack of time to drive it, as I say, the photographs that do appear on here are either from other contributors or are taken during a break or at the end of the day. If you have photographs of the work going on, feel free to post them, or e.mail them to me and I will post them with an explanation.

It's that time of the week again, and the nice weather has benefitted 13154, as the lads have had chance to get some paint onto the metalwork exposed by removing the rotten bits of the floor, on the down side, they have found some more rotten bits in the body, and yet more kinks and bends in her (reference one of my earlier posts where I said she seems to have suffered a monumental biff at some point)
Over the other side of the line, work has started on 17410's brake gear (Yes a re-occurring theme) which is being worked on by the LNER coach group, with assistance on certain parts from us, this is the van known to SVR men as "Don Wilcox's toad"
Sorry it has been brief but as with any weekend where good progress has been made, it tends to be concentrated on one area leading to a brief report, so see you all soon!

Hello! Very sorry, this week will be very brief but as I am coming into a very busy spell, I thought I'd let you all know what I know, so you don't think I have forgotten you.
On my way past on a train to day, I see 13154 has gained some more new wood, hopefully we won't find any more rotten bits (I have already been told to stop looking at it!) although as someone once said, if all I need is a bit of patching up when I'm her age, I'll be happy. This 1912 built wagon was another "All you need to do" job, as we were only expecting to do a light brake repair and a re-paint.....
..... if only life were ever that simple.
On a different note, the relatively modern Rudd wagons will be getting a chance to stretch their legs next week, as rather unusually, the diesel gala has a goods train (Not sure which day but it should be on the time table) so that should offer something different to the normal for us all to see, and hopefully I will see some of you there,

Sorry I have been away for a while, but it is silly season as far as turns go at the moment. Many thanks to everyone who reads this, I see we have now passed 9000 hits. So to business.
The large hole in the North end of 55577 has now been filled (Correctly) with Plywood, and now a large hole has appeared in the river side as we "Only replace the rotten bits" a phrase that comes a very close second place to "All you need to do is....." when it comes to striking fear into our hearts! She has also had some attention to the metalwork with some paint being applied to it, and the sand box receiving some TLC, so hopefully sand will come out of the delivery pipes, not the sides of the sand box.
13154 has had a coat of top coat and some of her sign writing applied, a sign that this one is getting close to the end of her overhaul and that the hard work is paying off.
17410s brake gear is making slow but steady progress, hopefully the scrap from this job will do for re-turning to patch up something else.
Finally, the midland brake, which was the victim of some vandalism recently, has had the damage made good, and is having some light repairs to the step boards.
If anyone fancies coming to join us, you don't need any skills, just a work ethic and an ability to drink lots of tea, feel free to contact the volunteer liaison office at Bewdley.
I will hopefully be back in a couple of weeks,
    Take Care
    Olly
