45305 has been undergoing repairs for several months now at Haworth so that still mustn't be complete. And yes it certainly will provide an unusual sight around the Pennines; Surprising really it isn't just 70013 on its own all the way round as with 61994 piloting it will be limited to 50mph.

A commitment had probably already been made to 61994s owner when a 5 was being paired. It would be a bit tough to drop it because a 7 was made available. Likewise could see 44932 vice 45305 being an option but hlpg have offered a sub so are probably entitled to their gig.
Not sure that the K4 is limited to 50mph anyhow. It's drivers are 2" into the 60mph band are they not?

The K4 has 5' 2" driving wheels like the K1 does and both are limited to 50mph. 60mph band is 5' 8" or higher.

Just out of interest has 70013 turned a wheel on the main line this year & is it not still at Southall? Unless there is other pending work up north before its scheduled outing from Waterloo on 7th June it does seem a lot of positioning mileage for the one relatively short trip.

Believe so, thus a road move will be needed to get it to a rail connected place. Presumably Carnforth?

Stand corrected and 50 would therefore be the limit regardless of pairing. Where does the 75mph diameter band begin?
    Presumably timed accordingly anyway.

75mph locos have driving wheels of 6' 2" or greater.

Yes, both have 5' 2" driving wheels but a glance into the cab of 61994 will tell you all you need to know. Strange to say this subject has done the rounds before on this forum. The engine was re-rated some years ago to 60mph and so far as I am aware has not reverted to 50mph. On the revised route, if TGM turned up at Preston on the day, particularly with Sir Gordon as driver, then just look forward to a grand day out. The potential climb up Miles Platting would be worth buying a ticket for.

Could be a formula for a winter CME in 2015, in absence of the S&C.

Thanks for the clarification and agree with your assessment of the potential.

Not the first time, the pair double headed over the Highland Mainline on the Great Britain III in 2010.

5305 LA website saying 45305 is on the tour, double heading with 61994. Don't know if it's been on there a while, but they put a post on Twitter yesterday stating such. Bit odd if 70013 is being advertised.

RTC website thought it was May 11 and deleted. Wonders of modern technology.
