The event aims to show what life was like for railwaymen and women in the early 1940s and will feature Pannier Tank No. 3650, Mogul No. 5322 and GWR Diesel Railcar 22.
The early years of the War were a very trying time for the railways and the staff who worked on them. Men volunteered for military service, and goods and passenger traffic increased. The railways employed women workers in nearly all duties on the railway, from porters and signallers to fitters and riveters in the works.
The weekend will feature female railway workers, and recreations of working and travelling in war time conditions to give the atmosphere of what the railways were like during the war years.
