I walk past the headquarters of the AVR every day and am surprised that a poster about the gala hasn't appeared outside the station.
When I speak to the locals they have very little knowledge of the gala. Come on AVR, it's free publicity. <BJ>

'Foxcote Manor' is running light engine at the railway today (gauging, crew familiarisation?). Looking good in the sunshine. <BJ>

'Foxcote Manor' is hauling 5 Mk.1s at the AVR today in preparation for their gala this coming weekend. With the amount of slipping on the extremely greasy rails perhaps the use of the RHTT (Rail Head Treatment Train) would be a blessing. <BJ>

Excellent day today, an interesting timetable, good timekeeping and noisy engines meant I had a thoroughly enjoyable day. Foxcote was her usual entertaining self if a little light on her feet in the damp and the triple header was extremely entertaining, I love the roar from the Tkh!

My only gripe, and this isn't a complaint more an obsevation, is that the wait to get food or hot drinks was far too long. Mainly this is due to the walkers and cyclists but I think a second outlet just serving hot drinks would have been useful, even better a buffet on the train.

Great day though so thanks to everyone involved.

After seeing the fantastic ascent of Sapperton this morning with 5043 it was time to sample the Avon Valley Railway steam gala. The visit was going really well until mid afternoon when the rain set in. After an hour or so the sun returned and it was great to see the Manor running up to Bitton with four very smart maroon coaches and later, a mixed goods train .....a wonderful sight and sound. I'm back again tomorrow for more of the same. Well done to the AVR. <BJ>

Had a thoroughly enjoyable day around Bitton on Sat. Well done to all concerned! I continue to be amazed at how the 'smaller' railways with far fewer resources than - say - the SVR or NYMR can still provide variety and a good day's entertainment at their galas. Hope the takings were good!

I had a most enjoyable day at the AVR on Sunday. Some photos from the day are now online at my Zenfolio website here: - http://mickrogers.zenfolio.com/p96139690
