    William Arthur Stanier was born on 27th May 1876.
    Join us for a slice of celebratory cake in the West Shed Library on Saturday 28th May.

    Some years ago a Mr Stanier came to my office to see me. I felt sufficiently confident to ask and he was indeed Sir William's grandson; a most pleasant chap. I think that he may no longer be with us

    Yes I am an active volunteer
    Sir William lived in Rickmansworth, his home is still there in Chorleywood Road on the right as you enter Ricky from Junc 18 on the M25. It's a large Art Deco bungalow that I assume he had built and he obviously still had an affinity with his old employer as it bears the name Newburn, the same as Churchward's official residence at Swindon.
