Steam Festival 2014

The annual steam festival will be held at Maldegem, Belgium, on Saturday and Sunday 3rd and 4th of May, 2014. A firm programme is already being established. On our standard gauge line we have 2 visiting loco's:
- La Meuse 0-4-0t “Magda” (built 1925) from Haaksbergen (NL)
- Tubize 0-6-0t “Helena” (built 1927) from Dendermonde-Puurs (B)

Another attraction will be the pairing of Maldegem’s tiny “St. Leonard 0-4-0t “Yvonne” of 1893 with two four wheel ex SNCV standard gauge tram trailers of 1894. These will make a couple of trips to Balgerhoeke/Eeklo each day.

Maldegem’s three other servicable loco’s, Ex Tunstead Quarries, Avonside 0-4-0st “FRED”, LaMeuse 0-6-0t “BEBERT” and Polish “Ferrum” 0-6-0t “GENERAL MACZEK” will also be in service. This locomotive previously worked on the Northhampton Steam Railway in England.

An intensive service will run to Eeklo on the standard gauge. Special this year will be the extension of services into Eeklo main line station. There will also be a selection of modern Diesel and electric freight locomotives from various operators on display either in Maldegem or Eeklo

On the narrow gauge line, trains will be operated by the familiar Kerr-Stuart 0-4-0st “PETER PAN” together with 0-4-0 VBT "Paddy" from Amerton. On this line, there will also be an intensive service in operation.

In total there will be 8 locos in steam

The non-rail steam aspect will not be forgotten, and various other steam items are planned to attend.

In Maldegem, there will be the usual selection of trade stands, cinema coach, model railways, and passenger carrying live steam track. Also some vintage cars and horse drawn carriages on display.

For groups from the UK travelling via P&O Ferries from Hull to Zeebrugge, Stoomcentrum
is able to arrange pick up at the Ferry terminal and transfer to and from Maldegem by preserved bus. Or alternatively, from Aalter or Brugge main line stations for groups arriving by train.
