37025's Boiler had its final test today prior to it being installed in the loco.
    This should be very soon.
The re-engineered water lift pump assembly worked perfectly.

A small video of the test can be seen at:

A though ETH wired / Steam heated Class 37 should be on the Big railway soon.

As the SRPS diesel pages are not updated very regularly, what was the story behind the refurbished 37 going to DRS ?

    Thanks

Wrong one. 37401 got done up by SRPS, but was owned by DRS and went back to them when they needed it a few months ago (it still hasn't entered service....). 37175 was privately owned, but was bought by Colas Rail, and is now in yellow/orange/black livery, working RHTTs round Brum.

The boiler for 37025 is the original Clayton boiler fitted to the loco, now fully refurbished and in working condition.
Every single part of the boiler has been stripped , assessed , refurbished or replaced.
All the old wiring has also been renewed.

Absolutely splendid work. The B&K team are a center of engineering excellence. I was part of the team that put the first shovel in the ground at Bo'ness having been both a Falkirk "wean" and latterly a Railtour "rat". Watching the developments from afar gives me great pleasure.

    Well done all !

    Bad news.
37025 will not be ready for the Bo'ness Winter diesel gala at the end of December.
After the loco's full re-wire both bogie and boiler overhaul , there is far to much testing to take place over the next few weeks .

A simple thing like the urinal ( Piss pot ) water header tank has taken two weekends to re-engineer.

Just had a quick flick through the galleries. Clearly the standard of the work is extremely thorough and is to be greatly commended. I'm not the world's biggest 37 fan mainly due to the number of them groups have been buying up, but to see one being done properly to ensure the locos continued reliable existence certainly makes 37025 a winner in my view. Well done to those involved!

A copy of a message from our CEO.
    Happy new year from myself.
    DAH

    Dear All,

Firstly, I hope you had a lovely Christmas and aren't suffering from the effects of seasonal over-indulgence!

As 2014 draws to a close, I'm an incredibly proud Chairman - proud not only of all the work that's been done on 37025 over the year but also of the way that the Group have rallied to the cause, whether that's been assisting in fundraising or volunteering down at Bo'ness; we've brought in a lot of new cash and Tuesday evenings or weekends have seen a marked increase in those willing to roll up their sleeves and get dirty!

In previous comms we committed to having 37025 complete by the end of 2014. Problems sourcing some specialist cable (for the TPWS), a problem with the data recorder configuration (OTMR, currently resolving this with our supplier Arrowvale) and paint shop availability (we can't paint the loco in an unheated shed at this time of year) have meant that the loco won't be complete this year for reasons outwith our control. Of course, these are minor fixes and 37025 will be ready, complete with a set of new batteries - which we can now afford - painted, in early 2015.

Benefits of this slight delay are that it gives the Group enough time to finish off the interior to a higher standard and also allows for the paperwork side (approvals, maintenance and agreements) to be in place prior to the loco's completion.

Thanks to a lot of teamwork and preparation, 37025 made two massive leaps in the progress front on the last weekend of 2014; not only did we manage to start the engine after a number of years with engine and all the auxiliary machines (compressors, exhausters, blower motors etc) running perfectly, but the boiler steamed whilst the engine purred away. What a fantastic way to end the year and a great taste of things to come.

On behalf of all at the STG, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
