Not strictly correct, it all depends on how you present matters to the finance committee.

I find one successful apporach is to talk about the purchase extensively and if possible visit a number of sales locations with the chair of the committee - it normally reaches the stage that you will be encouraged to purchase a she is sick of trawling round looking at things!

I usually find lubricating the MD/Accountant with wine usually helps with railway related purchase. It usually means she picks up somthing that she likes too like the replica southern 'Station Mistress' sign in the kitchen!

Luckily, I don't have a committee to worry about, so I just go ahead and do it. One has to value independence while its still present, even when edging close to 30. I consider the friends who have already had divorces, and I feel I might not actually be in a bad position in the grand scheme of things.

My Boss/Domestic Supervisor/'Er Indoors/SWMBO is worse than me. She paid for two life memberships for our RPS and it was 'Er that bought the Beyer-Garratt from Hattons. Based on what has been said above, I think I am in a good place.:);):)

Lucky, there- I'm still waiting to stumble upon a missus who'll put up with my eccentricities, idiosyncracies and, well, just plain me. Not that I'm trying particularly hard to find anyone, though... Anyway, enough of this 'lonely/not so lonely hearts corner' and back to Bulleids.

Well I have had to compensate not owning a real bullied so I bought myself a model of 35027 Port Line and she runs beautifully and she looks even better pulling a rake of Pullmans behind her.

In the latest Heritage Railway it states " Port Line is currently stabled a Bury pending a decision to have the engine restored to traffic by Riley Engineering " and goes on to state it was planned to be be retrurned to steam after Royal Scot was completed.

Archie, I've done somthing similer myself, I own various Aircraft including 6 Spits 2 Hurricanes, 2 Gladiators and a Sunderland flying boat they just happen to be 72 times smaller than the real thing! They do look almost as good as a 'packet' on the Pullmans...

To take this off topic for a second.

I was chatting to a couple of guys who worked for Alrington and Siemens at Eastleigh works the other day and what they were saying is they would be very surprised if the yard held another event like Eastleigh 100 in 2009 as the amount of work that the yard does has increased dramatically since then and they wont be able to justify clearing the yard for such an event.

Seen elsewhere, 34027 "Taw Valley" being prepared for its hydraulic test at Bridgnorth after completion of fitting (virtually) new firebox.

Let's hope it proves reliable. I think one of the lessons, in that wonderful thing call hindsight, about the first restoration of 34059 was that trying to minimise the amount of material that was replaced ultimately proved a false economy.

It will definitely be interesting to see how reliable Taw Valley's firebox is compared with the other Bulleids. I suspect that it will show that mucking around replacing large chunks of firebox is a false economy, and a whole new firebox is the way to go. Certainly have to hand it to her owner for having the bravery to commit to such a major rebuild of the loco.

The interesting thing for me is it was done at the Severn Valley I do wonder now they have done Taw Valley they will sell complete new fireboxs to the another Bulleid light pacifics because the number that are out there in steam it cantbe long before another one will need a new one.

Not exactly. The box was made by Pridhams, now part of the South Devon Railway. It was delivered complete but unstayed to the Severn valley who completed it.
