Not very far from Marsh Umber with white cab roof, and that was an attractive livery.

It somehow looks fine on those, probably 'cos they're just long boxes just like coaches :) I wish to complain about the accuracy of it though - surely the Great Western crest and GWR roundel wouldn't be on the same thing at any one time?

So with Bodmin and a couple of Merchants supposedly going mainline in the future, could we possibly see this:

    http://www.fictitiousliveries.co.uk/photo.php?S_WC_SWT.jpg

    or even:
http://www.fictitiousliveries.co.uk/photo.php?S_WC_Sthn.jpg when on the Surrey Hills?

Or maybe 34067 & 34073 will appear like this?
    http://www.fictitiousliveries.co.uk/photo.php?S_Bulleid_swt.jpg

At least with CanPac not having the added pressure of going out onto the big railway, she will be a lovely shade of green with a nice lion and wheel on the tender.

Just as an aside did any rebuilds ever carry the earlier British Railways lion and wheel? Have vague recollections 1 or 2 may have done. It'd make a change to see one in that condition, little difference I know but it makes a change

35018 did (are you following this thread Mr Smith? ;)) and I'm sure I've seen photos on this forum of a couple of rebuilds with early totems when this topic has come up before.

Edit. Here's one from Flickr of 35020 https://www.flickr.com/photos/iron-duke/10368345175

IIRC, only '28 carried the later emblem before rebuilding.

Thanks Tom Southern Railway/Region stuff is not my strong point, so please forgive my ignorance but the brake/ luggage end looks like it tapers inwards would there be a reason for this? Apologies for going off topic, sometimes I find the stock can be just as intresting as the loco!

I think it is so the guard can have lookout duckets without the carriage width overall exceeding the allowable maximum.

Here's a preserved one - not sure if it is exactly the same diagram, but gives the general idea of the arrangement of the brake end of the coach.

Why would a passenger guard need a lookout ducket - what's wrong with a droplight, like everyone else?...... bloomin Southern softies.........

Any danger of actually getting back to the topic of this thread, or are we just killing time until the result of the lottery bid is known?..........

My fault Mr Druid sir (wringing cap in hands) I 'opes you'll forgives me. Going back on subject is there any chance of 35005 going on tour at some point? I haven't had a chance to use my red pen on anything begining with 35 yet!

Don't do it again BOY, and its Sir with a capital S! :p

Though coaching stock is more relevant than on train catering at your local preserved Rly! lol......

As for Can Pac, I'm sure that somewhere in the grand scheme of things, she will but like a lot of newly overhauled loco's, probably not for the first year or so I would reckon....... unless its somewhere so far Oop North & the monies offered too good to refuse....... but we a re good few years away from that happening .

Fingers crossed the HLF grant is forth coming.........
