What are the chances of 34067 being the traction?

As the Black '5's are at Bristol it would be simple for them to run to Poole via Westbury.
The locos could run into Southampton and then reverse to Poole.

The timings indicate an early start from Poole giving the passengers over 7 hours at Bath. <BJ>

    Actual timings shown:
    Poole 06:50 / 22:07
    Bournemouth 07:08 / 21:51
    Christchurch 07:19 / 21:40
    Southampton Central 08:20 / 20:58
    Salisbury 09:30 / 19:07
    Bath 10:43 / 17:57
    Bristol 11:05 / 17:36

Interesting indeed, the last time a single black 5 tried Parkstone bank we had massive issues cos they left the oiler behind...

Does that mean that today's 5Z85 Southall - Swanage is the ECS move ?

Guess so, no steam traction from Southall all being used, so the ECS and the diesel being used for tomorrows trip. They just HAVE to take the diesel with them, if this lot gets stuck up Parkstone bank again with he diesel left at Wareham there will be hell to pay.

I was on 44932's solo run from Swanage to London and back in late November 2010 and we got up Parkstone Bank with only a couple of minor slips which were soon controlled. I can't imagine the rails will be any less slippery tomorrow than they were then - it had snowed the previous night.

Same tour, same time last year, same class of loco, never made it up

WCR simply can not afford to make that mistake this year.

I'm sure you are right on this one. My money is, as you imply, on a '5' plus a diesel to Bath and Tangmere plus a diesel coming back, unless Tangmere goes down to Poole for the outward leg.

    Aren't they putting 2x 5's on it ?

    Clever bit of scheduling:
gets Tangmere to London albeit via Poole and an ECS, gets the 5 to back to Bristol without a LE from Poole after the tour, probably saves a few people a few hours work too and I doubt there'll be any complaints in the passengers, nice one.
