Does livery up front influence you riding behind it ?

  1. Yes (it must be in a livery I like, if it isn't I won't ride behind it/i'll ride another )

  2. Yes (if because I find it interesting ie. recent repaint etc then i'd be interesting to ride behind)

  3. No (I don't care if it was painted pink with spots i'd still ride behind the same loco)

Safety requirements excepted but you've got to admit it would be different.

All joking aside, the A4s never had a splash of red between the buffers, nor did the LMS streamliners IIRC.

out of interest did any merchant navies have a early BR crest (lion and wheel) after rebuild or did they go straight to the late crest?

There's a photo in Bradley of 35018 in that form; also 35020 while on test, though that is slightly cheating as it is coupled to a mis-matched high-sided tender with early crest for reasons previously discussed on here.

Yes, some locomotives carried the cycling lion crest after rebuilding - 35012 for example. So that takes you into 1957 even though I think the crest officially changed over in 1956.

I can't remember which book I read it in and I can't be arsed to find out, but I didn't make it up. A lot of the Scottish Region engines ran the night sleepers from Perth and Glasgow, so would have been green.
