Given that Tangmere is n/a for the previous week, I wonder whether she will be down for this one, or indeed the Bath trip from Poole on the 27th. The Worcester circuit would be a nice route in daylight.

By the way, and I don't think I'm being unduly picky on this point. Just how many months ago was it that we knew neither 6023 nor 70000 would be available for the Worcester trip? I ask because the RTC site STILL advertises these as the possibilities plus a nice shot of 5029! They seem to have no system at all for doing the simple stuff. OK - maybe they don't yet know what will be pulling it, if it runs, but to promise nothing would be better I would have thought.

Heritage Railway Magazine were advising last month the the smart money was on 5029 hauling this trip, even thought it has been booked for Pathfinders trip on the same day for months.

If 34067 is unavailable 60009 is a possbile alternative if aupport crew available.

I imagine that a multitude of locomotives shall be subbing for Tangmere this winter because 34067's schedule for this holiday season is jammed pack. Who knows what shall show up on the schedule.

I wouldn;t have thought there will be too many complaints about this substitution! No. 9 is a popular loco and a capable performer. I wonder if it will work the Poole-Bath trip on 27th.

I hope Tangmere is fixed soon. It won't be so easy to find a substitute for the "Sussex Belle" on 9th December.

Indeed. Knowing the limited options, West Coast may well have to send super-sub 44932 down South yet again, although Leander would be nice, as it doesn't have any booked work before Christmas and after all, in BR black, it could almost be passed off for a Black Five

44932 last reported with boiler off but that was a few weeks ago. 46115 was only out a fortnight ago so could be in good order.

Hopefully yes. It looks like the diesel brings the train into Paddington as 5Z24 (with steam on the back), 60009 takes it away as 1Z24, then the diesel returns to Southall as 0Z24.

Could someone explain the turning procedure at Worcester, for this working. Would the engine turn on the triangle and reverse with support coach to Henwick crossover? Presume the stock is left at Worcester. Thanks in advance.

It's looks as though the train pulls forward into the London Midland Depot. My guess is that the loco and support coach turn on the triangle and then back onto the other end of the stock.

Normally it's done as Al says, loco and stock onto the shed. The stock is serviced and the loco is coaled and watered plus a bit of fire cleaning. It then takes the support coach and goes out the Tunnel Junction end, reverses to Henwick and then pulls round to Shrub Hill and reverses back onto the stock. It's usually done after the engine is serviced.

I'm booked for that train and really looking forward to it - although a Southern loco is most suitable I don't mind a substitution as long as it's steam! Why will it not be so easy to find a substitute - is 60009 banned from the London - Brighton - Hastings - London route?

Will 34067 definitely be out of action for that much longer?

60019 was booked on a trip from Lewes - Oxford a few years ago and was found to be out of gauge so came on in the London area instead.

It has been posted elsewhere that 34067 is heading south today.
