A spot of relative trivia - Saturday 13 December sees two trains with the same title "Christmas White Rose" at York, one from King's Cross and the other from Tyseley - could be confusing!

This is a regular occurrence on the middle Saturday in December. I was at Colton Junction once and saw the Castle approaching on one track and a streak on the other - panic amongst the photographers hoping to bag both! But Tyseley rarely use headboards so 46232's possible excuse won't wash I fear!

I was on the streak trip when they met. Parallel running for a while was fantastic. Then control had the damn cheek to let the copper topped thing into York ahead of us! (a joke, Earl of Mount Edgecombe is a fab loco!)

I did it the other way round last year. I had to get from Stockport to London that day, so the most obvious way to do it was to buy a cheap advance ticket from Stockport to Coleshill Parkway (about a tenner I think), for 5043 to York, then 60009 to Kings Cross. Both VT and RTC were happy to sell me one way tickets on their trains.

That's the only way a Castle would finish ahead of a Streak. :)

As I was on the footplate of 5043 that wonderful day, I can confirm that the Streak was running rather late - maybe it was out of puff? ;) It was one of those things that could not be planed!

This year we are going to join the ECML at Doncaster in both directions, so no chance meeting at Coulton Jctn :( I am sure the Copper Chimney will be (rightfully) ahead of the Streak as usual!

Are there many people who would like to go one-way on each train? If so, give me a shout and I will see if we can do a combo ticket with RTC - might save you a few pennies rather that buying two separate singles. After all, it is Christmas!

AND we are going to put a headboard on this year - just to make it really confusing! Maybe I will get all mixed up and end up back in London by mistake? lol

Nah. Delayed by those slow old electrics. Either that or waiting time for the Castle. :)

Uksteam now states that The Kings Cross departure is now 'TBA', no longer No. 9. What could replace it? Tangmere gauged up to York north of Peterborough?

On that particular year my son and I stood on the road between the converging tracks and had no problems - it was a delight to see both specials arrive almost simultaneously :)

Will be interesting to compare 5043 & Bittern, on the section between, Donacaster & York. Will the castle, look to put in some fast running on rare ground ?
