What do you mean by that Mike? Not trying to be obtuse, just not sure I follow.

 

It could be simply that Stanier's 3 cylinder set up of both the Royal Scots and Jubilees are quite complex hence the steaming problems that have been encountered. Certainly on their day both classes have proved wonderful ambassadors for WCRC and now with Chris Beet available to monitor the 3 cylinder locos I expect more will be heard and seen of them.

I think that it is important that tours operate safely and in watching 46115's operations as of late she has not been pushed to the fastest of speeds when on a tour. I don't think that WCRC want to go through more episodes of having her in action and then going down for a month or 2 possibly longer with repairs that did not need to happen in the 1st place.

I'm really happy for them. 2014 has really gone well for Carnforth overall. The 5972 incident was so unfortunate but other than that there were hardly any glitches.

Thanks for clarifying Mike. I'm not sure any of 46115's failures were down to her being driven too hard/fast and to be honest haven't noticed any discernible difference in how she's been driven. If anything, some of her most memorable, noisy and inspiring performances came this year; the Winter Cumbrian Mountains over Shap, and on TGB7, taking the train from Carnforth to Edinburgh, and clearing Beattock at a minimum of 32 mph - incredible. For me, she's by far the most impressive engine on the mainline. The Duchess on the other hand does seem to be driven well within its limits on a fairly regular basis - not a criticism, just an observation.

Come to think of it we are going to have every preserved class of LMS passenger locos in action this coming year.
