    Anorak on : I believe "White 14" is an E-3, not an E-4. I believe also that another E-3, Werk number 1342/"Yellow 8" is airworthy in the USA. 5 further Emils are in store/under restoration in the UK/Channel Islands IIRC. I have no idea as to their state of repair. : Anorak off.

    Whats the difference between an E3 and an E4? so when are we likily to see the first spitfire mk1 vs Me 109 E3 dogfight since 1940? over the skys of england, assuming the pilot dont ground roll it on take off run, as visability in any Me109 is verually zero.

    The E-4 was an upgraded E-3. Slight improvements to the airframe and canopy and upgrades to the armament fit.

    still didnt make it any easier to control on landing and take off i bet, and that glass house canopy didnt help how many young luftwaffa pilots died on their first flight in a 109, even before they had combat?

    A lot of accidents with the Blenheim were down to the RAF trying to land it the same way they had landed the Hawket Hart and Hind biplanes that preceded it, ie gliding in to a 'three pointer' without using the engines (bad form old boy). Once they learned to do a 'wheeler' landing under power things were much safer in that department, though a depressing number of Blenheims were still lost by flying into hills and other weather and experience related accidents, it was not an inherently unsafe aeroplane.

    Another fault was the tendency for the engines to flood if you gave them too much throttle during a "touch and go" as the pilot of the first restoration found to his cost at Denham.

    What has happened to the Mosquito restored in NZ - IIRC it was being offered for sale. It would be good to see it come back here! I saw the BAe one at a Boscombe Down families day not long before it was lost. We need one in our skies!

    There are one or two other Mosquito projects in NZ, I believe. In addition the group that just restored one now have fuselage moulds, which makes future rebuilds / new builds more feasible.

    I understand because of its composite construction that the NZ built Mosquito cant gain CAA approval here in the UK,
    is this true ? because of the amount of new construction its almost a new aircraft, and as such, there are the formers availible to build more, i you have deep enough pockets,
    Modern aircraft are largely composite construction these days, so where does the problem lie? we have had 2 flying examples in the uk previously, if one was only for a very short time, being shipped to the US soon afterwards

    I don't believe that the issue was with the method of construction per se, it was more to do with the paper trail that accompanied it; it was built to conform to US FAA 'experimental' category, something that does not exist in the UK.
