    "Pannier Fest"

    Just thinking 1369,1501,1638, one (or more ) of 6412/6430/6435, 9466 and a sprinkling of 57xx 's.

How great would it be to get a line up like that? Really be able to appreciate the differences in size and detail between them.

I'm thinking Didcot or SDR/WSR/SVR/GWSR/Llangollen or elsewhere.

But they're GW locos. They all look the same so what's the point? Now a few Black 5's would be different because everyone knows no two are alike!

Non-GWR fans need not reply. :)

The point is of course there is a great deal of difference between the classes, and it would be nice to see them side by side to emphasis the point

Bodmin and Wenford Railway did a pannier fest a couple of years ago - not quite all the locos listed but enough to make life interesting.

You need to find a line which will 1) be able to afford bringing in all those locos by road and still get a good financial return, 2) be able to run frequent 4/5 coach trains.

Jolly nice. If you want a Welsh Soprano flavour though I think Katherine would fit the bill:

Going back on topic, I never realised that the GWR Pannier tank lineage was so long and so varied, so I for one would like to see such a line-up.

I am never really sure which is bigger out of the 64xx and 16xx , so I'd welcome a direct comparison and it would help understand why both were built. Of course, I think both were direct replacements for similar older locos, as was the 57xx of course. Something like half the GWR locos were 0-6-0s and this branch of it's history is fascinating (and I'd like to see asome replicas built of the older examples....)

This sounds like something that the SVR would be best able to handle with support from the nearby Tyseley operation (main line Pannier shuttles ?) as many of the locos quoted have been seen on the SVR at some time. Would the SVR be willing to consider either a Gala Event or even a full week of Pannier (the Pannier Project / Program / Progrom / The People's Panniers ?) running during the Summer as a Visitor Attraction with the occasional freight to add to the mix ?

I would certainly make a visit for such an event.

The good thing about the SVR compared to anywhere else is that it has the GW coaching stock to go with the locos and (as it does on Santas) can run as two shorter lines from opposite ends.

To me the SVR would be the place to hold it, because it has the GW coaching stock to go with the locos, plus it can effectively operate as two short end to end lines (as it does at Santas) to give more scope for variety

How about a 4-6-0 gala? Compare the Big 4's + BR standards against each other.
    Just a suggested lineup!

    Southern - Lord Nelson / S15
    LMS - Black 5 / Royal Scot
    LNER - B1
    GWR - Castle
    BR - Standard 4 / Standard 5

This could apply to all classes with numerous survivors. Obviously to be called Class Reunion, there could be Halls at Didcot, MN/WC/BB at Eastleigh. Black Fives at Barrow Hill or Carnforth if the public could be allowed back for 1 weekend. A1, A2, A3 and A4 at York. 56XX at Barry shed, also, 28XX, 42XX. Stuff like that. Could be a crowd puller. Southall is an underused asset. Space there for Castles, Halls, Manors,, 41XX, 61XX, Panniers.

You're missing the point.....it's not a reunion of locos from the same class...it's to compare locos of different classes, though you could compare the 57xx and 8750 varieites with 15xx and 94xx....or the small panniers of 1366/1600 and 64xx (and throw in 1363 for good measure.)

I would prefer 5 Castles at Didcot, once the overhauls 4079 and 7029 are complete but this will be dependant on ths availability of 5029.The are 4 shed roads plus a siding.

you aren't getting it....the idea is to contrast similar locos not those of one class....thus you could have Hall/Modifed Hall/Manor/Grange/ County or you could have ...well I can't think of a comparable for other companies....
