Look at my photo. I know that its pretty poor but it clearly shows the coupling rods on the ground by the wheels and all the motion removed. It also shows the ejector exhaust pipe and ejector have been removed, along with the front splasher and mech lubricator. Here's a photo of 45739, stood next to it. Not as much has yet been removed from this but the smokebox dart and steam pipe cover are missing. None of these are things that would be routinely removed before a journey to the scrappie. 45739 still has its coupling rods and motion intact at this time, only the con rods having been taken down for movement, as was/is usual. (The chimneys were removed at Holbeck, though.)

Totally confused by your two Jubilee photos, Steve.
45739 was withdrawn at the beginning of 1967 and scrapped at Drapers Hull. 45562 was withdrawn in November 1967 and scrapped at Cashmores Great Bridge in 1968 along with 45697 Achilles. Is the second photo 45697?
Ha Ha, the caption on the second photo has answered my question.

Guessing that West Coast will have their hands full with other things right now! Believe it's at Southall still awaiting further action...

Didn't Steam Railway report John Bunch and his son undertaking the overhaul at Southall? Where does WCR come into the equation?

73096 should still be at Southall as the move up North last year was cancelled, details from UK Steam info site:

    Fri 19-Dec 73096 (? tbc): Southall-Carnforth

has Southall got the facilities to do a full overhaul, including a boiler lift and the repairs ? whilst the Std 5 was hauled with coupling rods on, there is still confusion as to if they meet specification , but that would not prevent any move by rail to Carnforth, my take on it is this, Carnforth do not want 73096 to move north untill they have 35018 finished and in service, and any other outstanding work done on their fleet, so some work such as detubing the boiler and chassis work may well be done at Southall, i think the roller bearing boxes were done not that long ago, so the chassis may not need much work so it could very well move to carnforth for boiler work, with the bottom half already done

Surely 34016 would be next in line as it is already at Carnforth. Unless the ownership has changed or its going for contract overhaul why would 73096 be moved there?

that would depend on what the agreement is with west coast, mind you, theres no guarentee that west coast wil be able to operate any loco until they meet NR's conditions

Is there am agreement with west coast?
The only published information seemed to suggest it remains in the hands of the same owner that it had at MHR and that he intends to overhaul it. Clearly it has moved to a WCR depot but that seems to be the extent of the relationship, as far as the outside world is concerned at least.

Yes but as far as the current owner has dealing's with West Coast, froth and speculation will persist! Especially in a place like this.

I don't think anyone knows for sure who owns either 34016 or 73096 now - at least no-one apart from John Bunch and David Smith!

Well that was a constructive and illuminating post, thanks for sharing the fact that you know something others don't. If you cant or won't say why bother posting?
