    4930 - http://www.4930hagleyhall.org.uk/news/news.html
Work has continued at Bridgnorth, preparing components for welding to the tender chassis. In our last update, the new dragbox was shown in position at the front of the tender chassis, but this has now returned to the workbench, where apprentice Max Greene has been busy finishing the structure, and drilling the necessary holes in it.
Meanwhile, the new frame plates have now been temporarily welded in position ready for the impending permanent welding session.
Further good news has now arrived from Adam Dalgleish Engineering Ltd., of Stockton who are constructing the new Collett-style tender tank for 4930. Following many weeks work on the technical drawings, fabrication of the steelwork has now begun.

    7802 cab roof fitted (Facebook)

Running from December 26th to January 4th, the Festive Season service will see heavy-freight steam locomotives No. 2857 and visitor No. 92214 steaming up and down the Valley. Standard fares apply

Progress has been made on the following locomotives:

7714 frame alignment is now complete, and axle box work is underway. The frames are being painted and the cross head and slide bar work is underway.

7802 cladding is being painted and the tender is in the Works to allow the EMF to undertake repair.

34027 has new cab fitting being machined, the chassis is being prepared to receive the boiler imminently.

42968 volunteers have now removed valves to allow work to commence on the valve liners.

    In the boilershop:

34027’s boiler is undergoing water testing and rectification work is taking place.

7802’s boiler is having holes reamed for new rivets to be fitted.

"Dunrobin’s new cylinder block is cast. Once upon a time, the requirement for a new cylinder block for a steam locomotive would have ensured its future as a static exhibit. Not so these days, and whilst by no means a cheap option, a new block is a relatively attainable option all the same. Dunrobin’s new cylinder block makes use of CAD drawings, polystyrene patterns and good old fashioned cylinder iron to produce two half blocks which will be machined and fitted in early 2015 enabling work to commence in earnest on the mechanical overhaul of the locomotive".

Smashing day at SVR yesterday the 9F is some machine! Was rather special last night watching the moonlight pick out the the detail on the boiler. A memory that certainly stick in the mind for a while. 2015-01-03 16.07.18.jpg

When 92214 was first announced as the SVR's Christmas visitor, I think quite a few of us were a bit unconvinced - wondering what we'd make of a green 9F, but I think it has won quite a few friends during its stay. When I've been over to the SVR recently, I met a couple of people who had come over particularly to see 92214. It is certainly an impressive machine which looks very "S&D"ish when coupled to the LMS set (on Friday 2nd, it had a "Pines Express" headboard for good measure!)

As for the colour, I think 92214's moment of glory in its BR career was when Ivo Peters chased it from Bournemouth up the S&D in his Bentley on 20th June 1964, working the 3.40PM "Up Mail" If you look at the pictures he took, it's far from obvious what colour it was painted at the time, being shall we say, a little grubby! Of course, if we're going to be pedantic there was no "Pines" by the time 92214 worked on the S&D in 1964. I don't think I've ver read that it visited the line prior to 1962 when the "Pines" still ran but other 9Fs certainly worked it. What is more to the point is that it looked good at the SVR and performed well.

The LMS set looks good with anything though, for the 60's weekend in 2011 it looked superb with D5310. It also seemed to go rather well with 30053 last year. I also think its a rather nice set to travel in.

Erlestoke Manor Fund's Facebook reports that as part of the SVR's winter shut down the Fund are carrying out some maintenance to 7812's valve gear. The weigh bar shaft has been removed to have the bearings renewed, something which hasn't been carried out since BR days. The screw reverser has also been removed so that it too can be overhauled. Both items are to be delivered to Tyseley locomotive works to have the work carried out.

Looking forward to seeing 4930 back in action think its the only long term SVR loco I need to Red pen! Was rather impressed with my girlfriends friend last year at spring gala, she made enquires as to what sort of engine 4930 was, and was politely shown 4936. (which she'd just been behind) so impressed with it she bought a tee shirt, which she proudly informs me she sometimes wears to work! Just goes to show it's never to late to get the bug!

And probably never will work a train. It has no cab area or no way of providing a brake.
