Not allowed to destroy a nest during nesting season. Any tree to be felled during this period needs to be surveyed first to ensure nothing is nesting in/around it.

This opens a shot of the canal ;-) Nothing else is being felled here this winter though. Just removing these 3, in order to improve the departure shot from Consall. Rest of this year felling is around Podmore Mill and Cottages opening up the views of the canal. Next winter will be further South around Cherry Eye opening up the views of the River.

There a few shots possible of the canal/river, just last year we only did Consall station and everyone was more interested in the shots at the Black Lion.

The nesting season for most birds runs from Spring into summer but by the time you get to August almost all the young will have flown the nest. By then the river water temperature might have reached double figures C

And there was me thinking that the views were being opened up for the fare paying passengers on the trains...................... ;)

Beat me to it, I only hope the photographers appreciate what has been done for them and even make some sort of contribution to the P/Way team.

The CVR hosts a number of photo charters each year so perhaps they are attempting to make it a more attractive venue as well as improving the view for passengers.

    Yes we know...........

But without fare paying passengers, there are no trains ergo no photo charters.....................

No yawn about it, the CVR will no doubt be looking all aspects of market growth. Bums on seats being uppermost of course but improving the view has the knock on effect of making it more attractive for filming, both amateur and professional - both niche but useful sources of income.

I was having a look for the CVR timetable on the website but when I click on the 'Timetable' icon on the home page it takes me to a calendar that only shows the special events, has the 2015 timetable been uploaded yet?

We really do it just for being there but we are always open for the odd sweetner.

Talking of sweeteners the landlord at the Black Lion kindly offered us a bowl of chips and baps, which the 5 of us accecpted with thanks. It was nice and warm in there and yes we had a drink as well-------------Cokes. Just a couple of shots of Consall looking great with all the ice around whilst waiting for our taxi. When it came was shivering with cold so thats my excuse for a blurred shot.

Some of us already do - like providing domestic facilities (washing clothes); transport at awkward hours and an on-call meal facility that only a parent does without complaint ! :Arewealone:

Consall station looks great, a credit to those who have worked on it.
Fred, I know you are involved on the parent side, those who the dig was at will likely not respond.....

We're working on it! Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to change the leaflet twice since it was originally sent to the printers for the beginning of December. I'm told the leaflet is arriving tomorrow, and updates to the website shouldn't be far behind.

You may need a day beforehand to come scope our locations out. I've just today pretty much finished Podmore Cottages, with Podmore Mill also having being started and being next on our hit list. Neil done Consall (as well as helping me tremendously with Podmore). Plenty to keep us out of mischief...

I know mine was a tongue in cheek response and I agree that those at whom the dig was aimed will possibly ignore the call but one hopes that charter organisers will note the geography and be encouraged to arrange more; the Churnet Valley has lots to offer but one rarely sees images from the line apart from those published by Frank Richards.

You're obviously looking in the wrong places Fred. Plenty of CVR shots have appeared on the web.
