Well its definitely closed Carlisle to Appleby. Try finding a journey via National Rail Planner on 28th.It comes up with a bus.

We wanted to go on this day but have now booked on 7th

It really doesn't inspire confidence when information about these planned engineering work, which is obviously in the public domain via the National Rail Journey Planner, has not reached RTC. Obviously some communication failiures here, not that that's anything new of course !

I'm sure they'll alert their customers, come the 27th, of the engineering works !

They have replied to my e-mail saying the 28th Feb is running as scheduled

Interesting. I guess that may well be true, but is it running as per the advertised itinerary.

"As scheduled" could mean by using a diversionary route presumably ?

Well, that's good news at one level and if the RTC office has confirmed that there is no problem then fine. Whether WCR has confirmed that 28/2 is ok is another matter. The fact remains though that the following is true from Network Rail:

Buses replace trains between Ribblehead / Appleby and Carlisle on Saturday 28 February and Sunday 1 March 2015[IMG]
    Start date
    28/02/2015
    End date

    Description
Engineering work is taking place between Armathwaite and Carlisle closing the line.
Buses replace trains between Ribblehead / Appleby and Carlisle.

But who can say whether the RTC is actually going to do something clever and send the WCME back over Shap to Crewe as that's a way of getting the Duchess home.

Highly likely I would say, given the information from Network Rail. I guess for many this will be a bonus, :)

I'd rather switch trip's and have the run over the S&C and up Langho, than the run down, Shap and to Crewe !

Back to Crewe would also make a change as we don't get it very often now.

If this does indeed happen I wonder how it may affect the Carlisle layover? Presumably extending it. I imagine the path south from Preston would have to be the same.

I'm sure an earlier slot could be found, better for everyone especially the Euston passengers.

Doesn't appear to be engineering works on the 28th February now. Northern services showing as a train throughout now.

NR had some engineering work pencilled in and now a month before the date they decide to cancel the work for reasons that we will never know, what's madhouse about that?
