Mainly paid, with a few of the great unwashed thrown in, hence no weekends yet, as we the unknowing would need guidance on what's to be done.

Congratulations MHR! For me, a vintage coach set has always been the one thing lacking at an otherwise excellent railway. It also helps to make up for the disappointment of the tragic loss of the LSWR dining car in the fire a few years ago.

I know it's a long term project but I look forward to seeing them running one day :)

Heh. Seriously, it is a WOW to get those bodies.
Really looking forward to seeing them coming on and running.

As has been said earlier in the thread, I'm struggling to see what they would run behind and not look a little lost.
(Other than running as Annie & Clarabel that is).

I know you're suffering RAT withdrawal symptoms, but will you please get the madness out of your head! :Muted:

And as said, WOW they certainly will be! :) Hence the need for appropriate motive power. ;)

Imagine the Ivatt 2 on the Bulleids with a CTT or PMV & Milk Tank in tow in one direction, and a suitable loco on the front of the LBSCR rake going the other way...... :):):):)

i knew where these carriages were stored on Hayling Island, plus the owner. they are remarkable survivors and one is in particularly good condition given it's age and history. compared to the vintage carriages restored/being restored by the IOWSR and Bluebell, i would imagine that much less work is required (though im no expert on such matters). large numbers became holiday chalets and were altered and 'butchered'. the local authority on Hayling Island had a policy in the 1980s of serving 'condemning orders' on those used for living accomodation, and very few survived into the 1990s.

the IOWSR have ex-North London Railway and ex-IWR 4 wheel carriage that also came from Hayling Island, the first of the IOWSR's beautifully restored 4-wheelers.

i suppose the Bluebell already have quite enough on their plate with a long queue of once operational (on the Bluebell) but out of service pre-grouping coaches awaiting restoration!

    cheers,
    julian

    Beachy Head??
Maybe Ropley should go for a new build Terrier, several new boilers have been made so the design is there? Or perhaps the NRM will let us have Gladstone, we've already done OK with one PM!

I hope that, as LBSCR vehicles, they are correctly restored with air brakes and not with those vacuum assisted contraptions.

PS - I fully agree that it is good news that a good home has been found for these vehicles.

this is very good news, so after being a MK1 only zone for ages, the MHR, looks to be getting some variety a blood and custard bullied set behind a black schools
but what can you get to haul the 4 vintage LBSCR coaches, if painted in early southern livery how about the SECR D? that would look good in early Southern livery, and would not be over taxed, on that, or a freight, would the NRM, giving you that in place of 850? if she is restorable

Great news for the MHR which seems to be going from strength to strength in recent years.

Can someone from the MHR please clarify if all 4 coaches are to be restored? The website article says 'Salvageable parts from the fourth coach, LBSCR 660, are currently being recovered.' which to my mind means that this coach may be scrapped. Or maybe I'm just reading it the wrong way!

    Thanks

    Keith

That has never been in doubt :)

Interesting point a few comments up, The pictures are of 3 coaches, 4 are mentioned
It would be a real shame if one were scrapped, surely there should be enough parts to be used as patternes to allow fabrication / replacement and ultimately rstoration of all 4?

    Thought not!

As regards the coaches.......... I've re-read Peter Cutlers piece, and below is a bit of copy & paste...... it would appear that one vehicle will be sacrificed......

"So, at some time in the future the Mid Hants will not only have a Southern Bulleid 3-set but will also have one of the oldest trains in the country comprising a brake compartment coach, a compartment coach and a passenger parcels brake van."

What is 660? in some cases the vehicle may be better than what first views make you think it is, woodern construction is easier to repair, than a monoque steel body, if you have the right skills , most of the coaches are said to be in good order body wise, if 660 is a passenger vehicle and you want to teach trainees how to work in wood, it may be a very good base to start from,
