Is there an update on how 6430's overhaul is progressing?

 

Slowly making progress. Last time i looked at it they were just fitting the tubes. Frames and wheels are separate still. I'd say March is a bit optimistic really, but you never know.

 

Does anyone know whether at SSS4 Will be the only time in 2015 that enthusisats can access the workshop / yard area in 2015 or will the opportunity be there at another event

That's an interesting turn of events.

 

337 needs a bit of work doing, so looks like a nice easy replacement. Wonder if they are going to use 337's tender behind 231 to save on transport costs.

 

There's a useful and conveniently timed article about photographic locations along the Llangollen Railway in the current issue of Heritage Railway.

 

Is it a lot of work, or is it just a lot of work is being done or 6430?

 

I think it just a few regular winter maintenance jobs that have over run, or turned into slightly bigger jobs. 64 is steadily progressing, though the frames hadn't been re wheeled when i was in Llan a week or so ago.

 

Excellent timing, not seen it yet but i wonder if it covers the new bit or not?

 

The section west of Corwen is not covered in any great detail unfortunately, appearing to be very much an afterthought. I hope to explore the photographic opportunities along that length of the line myself at some point during the 2nd weekend of SSSIV.
Rather pointlessly, the article features the well known view of the Dee bridge that used to be available until the new landowner exercised their right to bar any access at all times.

 

Is the boiler complete yet?

 

I remember an article published in HR before one of the previous SSS events, so probably just a reprint of that with a few new pics possibly. Some very open bits right by the A5 between Bonwm and Corwen that i'm sure will be packed over both weekends. Worth a look anyway.

 

Wasn't far off last time i was there. All tubes were in and expanded, washouts and mudholes were fitted, just needed the dome on and a few other bits doing then time for hydraulic testing. If that hasn't been done yet, it cant be too far off.
