Clayton & Shuttleworth Worksplate

The Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway Historic Vehcles Trust is restoring a Class D wagon adapted for passenger carrying.

Part of our research indicates the chassis may have built by Clayton & Shuttleworth. There are two pics in the Grattton 'Ashover' book of a C&S wagon, but the wording on the worksplate is not readable. The pic in the WDLR Album is better, but RCL can not improve on the already good image quality to let us know what is on the Plate.

Does anyone know of any other C&S oval worksplates, and what is written on them ?

I have this image from of a Clayton Wagon Catalogue of a flat wagon.

 

Well, the type of wagon is new to me, I thought the only 'Flats' were type F's. Thanks for sharing, but unfortunatley the wording on the plate is as undecipherable as the other pics I have.

I am sure we can find you a Clayton plate from another piece of their kit

 

If you find another plate it would be very useful. Please PM if you find something, or I can come up to York sometime. I have been looking all over 'tinternet and have found no other oval plates yet, they are all rectangular on traction engines and portables.

Discussion amonst LCLR folk has identified the 'flat' in the picture to be the chassis for an H class Tank wagon. How amazing that in 1917 they still boarded the deck when timber was in short supply.

Great stuff!
This is the chassis of a Class H watertank wagon. The bodies were supplied by a separate company.

 

Attached blow up of the photo posted above. Seems perfectly readable to me (apart from the date).

Sorry Rob, but that's not the worksplate you've blown up - the worksplate is the oval plate about 2/3 along the chassis above the far bogie.
