Yes - heard the comment but there was little information on the locomotives concerned. I had suspected 7027 and 49395 would be 2 beneficiaries but I was unsure of the 3rd locomotive he would fund, although if he thinks that £1 million is sufficient funding for 3 locomotives has he already arranged some funding ?

Would be great to see 7027 making some progress.

    Perhaps more likely are 49395, 5553, 5224, 6634 - all requiring ££s.

7027 would likely soak up the whole £1m.

Speaking of 6634, wasn't that supposed to have the boiler off 4115 ?, the chassis is just taking space at Bridgnorth who can't do anymore without it without a boiler.

Thought the boiler off 4115 was going to a new build 47xx?

Don't think so, only options for the 47xx are no.1 boiler with extended smoke box (4700 as built) so either a hall or 28xx boiler or new build no.7.

I recall there is the option to use a no.1 as an initial measure to get her running with a no.7 later as funds apply.

    4115 will have a no.2 boiler.

Yep and the No2 is smaller diameter as well as shorter than Std1, let alone Std7 (which is nearer in dimensions to a King boiler). If they had to use an alternate boiler, even though the combination was never used in the past, [getting back on topic] Thornbury Castle's boiler would in many ways be the best option. The Std 8 (Castle) boiler was basically a Std 7 with a smaller diameter barrel to save weight. Firebox dimensions and length basically the same. I am sure Mr Waterman would not approve of that idea! And the smaller barrel would help enormously with the height problems...

I'm glad it seems that Mr. Waterman is making some sort of commitment to the future of some of the engines in his care (whichever ones these overhauls do turn out to be) but I'm somewhat perplexed that 49395, 5553 and 5224 don't seem to have earned enough during their time on the hire market to get at least one or two of them back into steam quickly. Or was the income diverted elsewhere rather than ringfenced? In which case it seems not to have been a particularly successful strategy, since there seems to be nothing to show for it...

Why is height an issue, is there a mainline plan for the 47XX then ?, surely if not you'd just take the chimney, safety valves etc off for moves in and out of Didcot ?.

I have always pondered a little over this strategy....

The tank engines were restored and seemed to be permanently busy (5224 seemed to be everywhere at one stage), around the same time there seemed to be much in the media about Thornbury being a reminder of his youth (I seem to recall there being a story that he remembered them with Hawksworth tenders and that was why such a tank had been fabricated for her) and then that went quiet. Suddenly 49395 became available for sponsored overhaul and everything seemed to shunt towards her (which I am not complaining about).

The tanks appear to have come out of service and been stored with no obvious plan for restoration, Thornbury has disappeared off the radar entirely and I am not sure what is happening with the Super D. I assume that the Super D made such a dent in finances that it has ground the whole thing to a halt - does Mr Waterman earn anything for her steaming's or did he just sponsor the overhaul?

The question with 49395 is "What are the NRM's plans for it"?, not Waterman.
Now that Waterman has sold LNWR, it changes the whole ball park with regards to his other locos being overhauled.

The whole thing makes you wonder tbh as it seems Pete Waterman now needs to sell some models to pay for overhauls. The steaming fees and the money from the sale of LNWR must of been a not insignificant amount it does beg the question of where all that has gone as I would of thought some of that would of gone someway towards paying for the overhauls.

Is he selling models to pay for overhauls, or just selling them?

That was what he said on Steve Wrights show - He was selling the models to pay for the overhauls of 3 Engines (didn't say which though).

Was the original plan, but seems to have gone quite. 4115 no longer exists really, extension frames and wheels to 4709 and the bunker and tanks scrapped (all they were worth really). Boiler was at TYS I think, leaving only the frames with no assigned future (are they at Llan still anyone)?

And does Thornbury really need 1million? I thought that that container at the back of LNWR/CHC was full with motion, and all the bits needed to complete her? And the boiler basically just needs a re-tube?
