Many people on here can fortunately remember what it was like to have steam out of the various places where steam again has a presence. It is sad for the next generation of enthusiasts to have to take pot luck on experiencing and then understanding the capabilities (and limitations) of each of the main line fleet dependent on whether or not the trip is pure steam. But, IMHO, the cup is still half full rather than half empty in respect of what is on offer. I just wish that someone would sort out all of this back down the line so that there are no surprises.

No doubt, at some point we will find out whether it was NR who forced the need for a diesel or whether the pathing made it essential that a diesel was included so as to keep time.

There's a lot of required steam mileage for me too on this trip but the box factor made me book the Cardiff trip instead. I've been on trips where the box has just been along for the ride and made for some good hard work from the steam on the front but I've been on trips where the box seems to have had the sole purpose of giving the steam loco fireman and easy time.
Wasn't prepared to gamble on this occasion but I hope for minimal diesel involvement for your sake.

That statement is at variance with the NR STN issued on 4th March - "Train Note: Steam Loco 61306 & POB + 9 Vehicles + Class 47 or 57"
Will be nice if things have changed.

Excelent news. Wonder why NR's STN stated that there was to be a diesel.

There are no LE moves from Kings Cross since the diesel that brings stock in stables in the station (near where the York Road platform was) during the day if it isn't going with the train.

That makes sense because if there was a diesel on the back then surely they wouldnt go to all the hassle of running round both locos at Norwich and then doing the same thing at Lowestoft? I mean the diesel would just pull the train on that sector and then it would be at the back again when departing Lowestoft.

If 61306 does go over the new flyover, does anyone have the mileages for this section?

Hitchin North Junc is 32 m 53ch from KX. Hitchin East Junc is 34m 5 ch i.e. an extra 53 ch via the flyover compared with the flat crossing.

@6026 King John - interesting I thought the siding road there had a designation for realtime as its where the thunderbirds are normally. Like you say I've seen various wcr 37's from previous tours stabled so I assume the same.
