Hmm, looks like the reliable time piece that is Clan Line on the Surrey Circular may have had an issue.

On time leaving the water stop at Shalford, dropped three minutes in the next two uphill miles to Chilworth, dropped a further four minutes in the next four miles to Gomshall, and rushed hurriedly through Dorking West clearly flustered and angry, 7 minutes late and spreading the diners Piedmont White Truffle Crème Brûlée all up the side windows as it canted round the curve.

    Vid to follow

I think she had to take a DL with her today so assuming the usual view of DBS crews - i.e. "if we have to take a DL then it is expected to keep quiet" - my guess is that the load plus the drizzle made for a bit of a slog up Gomshall.

Correct - just seen a clip between chilworth and gomshall. The box was a dead weight, easy on the regulator and steady progress was the order of the day on the wet track.

A bit of late news but I see from the MNLPS site that the decision to take the diesel along was reported not as a request of the loco crew but the guard! That's a strange one as it only made it more difficult on the Gomshall climb,

Can anyone recommend a suitable location to view 35028 on Gomshall Bank ? Thinking of doing some photography on Saturday 21 March : ))

By the way, I don't have a car

Without a car it is rather tricky as Albury/Shere are too far a walk I would say from Chilworth/Gomshall, even if you had a push bike. Chilworth station is nice...

You need a very tall ladder to be on the bridge behind so probably no good if your on public transport...

    or Gomshall station...

Believe there is a foot crossing Shalford side of Chilworth the station you could walk to, not sure how to get there though.

The foot crossing is a hike if you haven't got a car.

You can't go too far wrong with Chilworth station. Particularly handy if you not in a car.

or dorking east - see the vid above for that view. Every other good view other than stations you need to be prepared to hike a lot or have some form of transport. Sometimes both.
