That's going to be a logistical nightmare, although Oxenholme has a reasonable sized car park, finding somewhere for all the coaches required may prove difficult, and the time it is going to take whilst all the passengers and their luggage get off the train. I hope there is a big enough gap in the southbound traffic....

Yes, she will do, but once she's there can we chain her to the rails until such time as demands are met that she hauls tours around the South! :)

To have two Jubs Opp North is just plain greedy....... and anyway she looks like a Black 5, so I'm sure no one will notice......... ;)

Day 5 of the Cathedrals Explorer in 2011 terminated at Oxenholme with passengers being bussed to hotels in The Lake District, so it's been done before. Also, on the GB and Explorer tours, passengers luggage is transferred by road between hotels so that's not really an issue.

You have to admire Nigel Dobbing and RTC for their perseverance in running this mega-tour year after year. There must be easier ways of earning your keep! While I have to say I'm not surprised that 6023 and 35018 have all disappeared from the line-up, the bottom line is that every year loco availability issues cause change after change often up to the very last moment and there are usually one or two route changes thrown in too, with the resultant knock-on effects for hotel bookings. I wonder what else, if anything, will be changed before Tangmere finally pulls out of Victoria....

Absolutely! Pity it's arriving a bit too early for the Dorset Coast Expresses. 45690 would make a very interesting addition to the pool

I think we can agree that GB VIII is a prestige tour for both WCR and the RTC. There are always loco changes and this year will be no different from any other. But in my view what you can be certain of is that both companies will work flat out to a) make it happen and b) deliver the promise. Logistically it must be a nightmare but each year there is a 'wow' moment or day that everyone raves about.

So I wish them well. The only disappointment is that they do not offer a Standard Class option but my guess is that they fill the train without that and so why bother?

Anyone know if the St Blazey turntable is planned / able to be used for the Cornwall leg?

As far as we know yes, steam is coming off at Par on the outward trip to turn and stable there overnight then travel down to PZ early next morning to work train as far as Bristol.

And I guess that if all else fails the same procedure can be worked through at Plymouth.

well if that was the case you could possibly say good bye to the Cornwall section being steam, they would come off at Plymouth and stable there overnight, if they were to go down to PZ collect the train early morning would be at least 2 hour or more trip tender first, and would need watering once at PZ the GB usually leaves soon after breakfast, but it seems fairly certain that they will use the turntable

And sounds like a Black 5 too, as even when she is working the stuck open drain cocks will drown out the sound of her 3 cylinder exhaust beat.

    ;)

Hey ho. RTC behind the curve again. But on the plus side, they try things that others wouldn't bother to do.
