According to their FB site, Wenslydale services cancelled today for charter! Sounds a bit drastic, I can't think of many railways who would give a charter priority without at least offering 'something' to their core (advertised?) business???

Try LU when they cancelled services for the Chesham 150 last year!

I may be wrong, but I suspect that the railway's income from this one charter will probably exceed their normal income on a Saturday in March, especially when you take shop and refreshment sales into account.

Back in York on time, Diesels on the front, waiting for road. Very interesting tour, just want to get back to Carnforth now.

A great day yesterday. Not the easiest to plan and run but everything went smoothly. There was also an enjoyable dash back through Thirsk with 62005 leading.

A couple of images from the day - at Leyburn and at York.

Bit delayed leaving York, the another delay at Leeds, but the run from Hellifield to Carnforth was brisk as we needed to be there on time or risk having to wait until Barrow train, in about 10 minutes after our due time, had cleared. We made it.
Cracking day out and all praise to Loco owners, support crews, RTC, West Coast and Wensleydale railway for making it to happen.

Very good day out over some interesting stretches of track, and I found the industrial scenery around Stockton and Hartlepool fascinating. It was clearly not an easy day to plan, as anything can happen when you leave NR for a heritage line in terms of timings, but despite the 20-minute delay leaving York, everything combined to make it enjoyable, with a chance to stretch legs and drinking arms at Leyburn. It seemed that the stretch between Hartlepool and Ryhope was very tightly timed, and 62005 did a good job of eating into the deficit of 12 minutes by Northallerton, arriving at York only 7 minutes late. Thankfully the timings were a bit slacker after Northallerton, as it wouldn't have been an easy proposition with a locomotive limited to 50mph.

Agree wholeheartedly Ralph & a pleasure to chat on the Carnforth legs. I expect the Wensleydale Railway has made a lot of new friends and will see many visits from those who made this trip.
