Fairly sure it was reported recently that intermediate boiler work had been carried out over winter to extend the certification life span.

Oxenholme. That's better. Samsung call it Auto Replacement. Wonder why their dictionary had Oxenhope and not Oxenholme? Answers on a postcard.

Please forgive me for going totally off-topic, but Farington Junction (3 miles or so south of Preston) does happen to be a loco change point for many CMEs ....

There are those semi-illiterate beings amongst us - who tend to reside south of Crewe - and who repeatedly insist on referring to this place as Farringdon Junction! Despite what many smug, self-satisfied (almost unintelligible cockney-speaking) types might argue, we Northerners have never expressed any particular desire to name our own confluences of rail routes after mere Metropolitan Railway stations!

AND don't get me going on about the place that is actually the next junction south therefrom, but which yet others from similar climes continue to verbally refer to ... as 'Yooxton' Junction!

I know one cockney whom can usually spell correctly and knows the names of many obscure railway junctions.

Oh dear. What an ill tempered, ill informed rant. And what is "unintellible" pray? It's unintelligible to me.

So how should "Euxton" be pronounced? I've often wondered.

Pretty offensive sort of post, but at least it is laughable, so well done with keeping us entertained.

Should I mention that Farringdon was not a Metropolitan Railway station? It was not named Farringdon until 1936 - three years after the Metropolitan Railway ceased to exist.

It is understandable that some people pronounce it wrong. When you have Euston pronounced 'Yooston' they see Euxton and assume it's pronounced the same. But we know different!:p

Not sure to precisely what “ill informed” was intended to allude, but it is reassuring to discover that at least some of those resident south of Mecca (oops, sorry, Crewe!), were capable of correctly spotting my gaffe … even IF they might continue to possess difficulties in correctly spelling/pronouncing place names in our glorious North Country!

Cages well and truly (and so predictably) rattled ... and quite as intended. Cheers, royce6229!

Since it's a decision by West Coast and maybe NR, I can't see anyone here being a party to that sort of info, maybe the spy drone  will reveal all later in the week.

Lineside tickle-tackle Saturday had 46115 for Easter Monday's Hadrian as 60009 was said not to be ready, doubt WCRC would want 46115 ending up in York after last year's debacle.
