That's a very old one - pretty sure I've seen it attributed to OS Nock or similar in the 1930s, and not a 28xx either.

1501 Travels... 1501 seems to have been wandering around the country this winter... is she due to go anywhere else? Especially anywhere in the South East?

6? The 28 wouldn't know they were there. I had it with 10 MK1s two years ago, it didn't notice them either. You need to hang 1,000 tons or so off the hook to make a 28XX work for its living.

I think they are on about 1501... I've had 1501 with 8 on the back from Bridgnorth (although it was the teak set), it made an almighty racket about that!

Rumour control has put out that 1501 has some broken wheel spokes. Can anyone confirm (or deny)?

Well its looks pretty alright as I am looking at it as I type. Paid staff have zero quarms or worries over it either. The driver from Sunday isnt concerned either.

Just a question then. Who did you hear this rumour from?

Good to hear that what I was told was wrong. I would normally consider the source to be very reliable.

There was mention on the SVR Facebook page, but whether it was a result of Steve's inquiry I don't know.

The facebook comment was triggered from @Steve's question on here . No doubt there may some anti NP rhetoric as a result

As a word of caution asking such questions on any open forum should be avoided as this is how uncontrolled and unnecessary rumours start that end up causing owners and railways unnecessary grief

So how should such questions be asked? It was clearly stated it was a rumour.

Not all of us have private contacts, which is why I asked the original (and as yet unanswered) question about the loco's whereabouts and plans.

    [added next day]
One might also add that, to be pedantic, an "uncontrolled and unnecessary rumour" had already started, and asking whether the rumour has foundation in a place where people who know might be expected to see ought to be as efficient a way as any to prevent further spread. By contrast if such rumours only spread in private conversation they may achieve much wider currency, and then any public denial of the rumour is more likely to be greeted with thoughts of "no smoke without fire"

I don't normally post such things unless I'm confident of the source and I have to say that I'm quite taken aback to find it is not true. However, I did think that comments by others were carefully worded.

Oops! Remind me not to post when I'm the far side of several glasses of wine, having not had a drink for 3 weeks. I meant 1501. I had it for several footplate weeks over the years of its first boiler ticket and have fired it on a 10 coach special, which it handled with consummate ease.

With 1501 it was never a question of power, but a question of water. One driver apparently didn't make it end to end with 8 on, hence to drop to 6.

It's a little more complicated than that.

So does that mean she has no more excursions planned? As the owning group don't seem to have a Web presence it's difficult to find out.

The SVR website today announces that the SVR locomotive fleet is to be painted gold ( and Victoria Bridge as well...) to celebrate the railway's 50th anniversary year.
A 1st April spoof of course.

....I wonder what a gold "West Country" would look like.... No, don't go there...!!
