Thoroughly agree with Al, Stuart. You are building a fantastic collection of photos which are helped a lot by your choice of camera. You must clock some mileage. My fav as I have said on here many times before is EoME under the towers, but my, these latest ones are decent !!!! Pete

Yeah I saw this aswell, what is it with Carnforth engines and hooters sounding as though they've just been sat on? When she first came back to traffic she had an awesome hooter, what's gone on there?

On the other point totally agree, deffo some big positives for Carnforth in recent weeks in regards to reliability etc. Galatea deffo seemed comfortable with 9, steam tight and presented itself well. All they need to do now is sort out those hideous numerals on the side of the cab! :Playful:

Not sure where all the comments are coming from about 5699 being unusable or being behind 35018 in the queue ( Galatea thread ) as she was winterised and just needed some work in the cab nothing more sinister than folk have said .

I agree about the type face used on the cab sides. If it was correct even the non authentic livery would be very acceptable. It seems just as easy to get it right. The one that annoys or annoyed me was the one incorrect numeral on the super D. The 5, if you have worried about 45699 I'm sure you have seen that. Again it looks OK apart from that one figure. Perhaps it will be altered in the next overhaul.

A virtually brand new locomotive needs time for the problems to be sorted out. Unfortunately this has all been done under the scrutiny of the armchair (and also expert) commentators. Probably the single most important feedback came from the crews and as more people drove and fired to her, that evidence will have accumulated.

If the loco is now well then that is good news all round and those who did the work deserve our thanks.

Ah at last, an insider who has now alluded to the fact that there was Never an intention to run double headed Jubs on either 24/1 or 7/3, now that RTC is part of WCR they must have colluded on the misadvertising of both these trips and they wonder why their customers moan on this and other forums !!!

News to me. WCR and Compass are now joined at the hip but I didn't think that the RTC and WCR had anything other than 'a close relationship' with each other.

News to me too, and I understand the Compass that is isn't the Compass that was.
    From Wikipedia.
''The company remained in family ownership until the end of 2014 (after which it ceased to exist), causing West Coast Railways and its associated partners to take over the brand and customer mailing list with a new website and on board staff.''

Insider ? That's a pretty serious allegation aimed at Carnforth and me without any firm back up facts from you !

From your statement above Stephen, either you were an insider, or, the information you imparted can only have come from an insider, if you are not then I apologise unreservedly, but I notice you have not denied it in your statement ! Either way, the only assumption I can make is that 45699 WAS fit for traffic, but someone decided, even though it was advertised for both trains, not to take it out of the box !

I never said 45699 was fit to do the tours you dispute and if you can prove that I wish you well ! I have good lineside mates that know more than you do by the sound of things about Carnforth .Next time you want to come out lineside give me a call just to get you out of the armchair you seem to be sitting all the time !

Not so sure about that. One of the former owners of Compass now works for WCRC, and just last year Compass were looking at offices at first Helsby and then Frodsham station. If WCRC did buy Compass, rather than taking over a defunct company, then they have bought the mailing details of quite possibly 100,000+ customers. Add that to the Railtourer mailing list and their own, that's a lot of potential customers.

Worked not works for. This is in the public domain...
The original business ceases to exist with the founder Mr Melia working for the new company for a few weeks before his services were no longer required and no former office staff being retained. All bookings for the new Compass operations are via West Coast Railways of Carnforth.
