I like the line of thinking regarding the Crab, and it would be something some would find to be an acceptable end for her. If it was Swindon built stuff no doubt there would be endless possibilities....

Reading the book on the Fowler Tanks by Wild Swan publications, it would appear nothing was used from the Crab to go on the Tankie. The boiler for example was designated as G8AS, which came from a MR 4-4-0 3P. It may well be worth " another " trip to the NRM to acquire the Crab drawing lists so an accurate comparison can be done. Any volunteers?

Meanwhile on the positive news front......
A fair few boxes are being ticked regarding drawings available through the help and support of the RPSI and the possibility of more to come. We've had an initial reply which whilst not being comprehensive does give us some hope. I will keep you posted as we progress further.

I would be careful about going down the "Crab" line, no pun intended, the 42859 saga is best left alone, and from the comments above it looks as though little if anything on 42859 would be of use to you, even if it were available.
Another "red herring" might be the question of mainline work on Network Rail. The Fowler tank if built will have no shortage of takers in respect of heritage line use, for which the loco will be ideal.
If you eventually get to a point where you think you might press the "go" button on this project, it might be worth you making arrangements to meet with the people behind the 82045 Locomotive Fund. They are a well organised group, and might just offer a model of setting up and project planning that will be of use to you.

    Keep us updated please!

Having spoken with some of the people involved with this project, they are well ahead of your suggestion 46118. Can't say too much as I've been asked to keep things to myself until a formal launch is made, but trust me if they aren't just looking into what would be best for the physical build, but what would be best to enable the group to fundraise etc, the sort of project planning you mention.

Thanks lil Bear, that is encouraging. I suspect that if they can put this project together in a professional manner then there should be support from "LMS" orientated people. . I guess I would be tempted as a monthly DD subscriber to this one.
I mentioned the 82045 group, but should in fairness have said in true BBC fashion, "there are other well-managed new-build groups", the Brighton Atlantic, and the Patriot being two such....

Another thread resurrection: is this one being kept quiet while the foundations are laid, or is it completely dormant/deceased? The evidence on this thread suggests a maturity and intelligence of approach.

3855 some newbuild projects are deadly serious. While im sure a Fowler tank facebook page would be made in the long term as and when a project gets to that point, it would only be to show progress to interested and possible new members. Not a way of launching said loco. A loco such as this could easily have a 7 year build program such as Tornados P2. Very useful on the preserved scene!

Quiet scary that having lay dormant for a while I only received an e-mail on this last week! Things are bubbling away in the background, but no formal launch is planned just quite yet as those driving this are still investigating a few avenues first.

Good to hear it ain't dead. I've been THAT GUY who thought a FB group would get it all rolling (for a line revival, not a loco), got as far as one incompetently-(dis!)organised and utterly humiliating public meeting, retired to lick wounds, but in the meantime recruited a couple more to the previously 2-strong group - it ain't dead, but we're still debating strategy and how to take it forward... pretty determined it'll happen sooner or later, but we're very much at the bottom of a learning curve! Any interested experienced parties in the southeast, please contact me... we won't be launching ourselves on the public again until we have a really well-sorted plan...

No need to teach granny to suck eggs, I think 3855 might have made a joke. Duck!
