I say old boy, can we have a thread please, "List of threads covering WCRC suspension issues".

It could contain a growing list of the threads with links, and a short idiots guide, (needed for Yetis at least), under each link stating which part of the debate is covered by each thread.

    Thank you so much

Sorry Bryan. Suffering a humour bypass on this topic. Herding cats - scratchy ones at that - can become tiresome. On a topic as serious as this, some folk seem intent on turning it into a circus and #702 is an attempt to manage it.

I would honestly say close them all for now and reopen as and when something solid emerges to actually discuss - I am not sure if anything of any substance above multiple hypothetical discussions has come out over the weekend - going round in circles is just taking up server space and raising peoples blood pressure!

On another point, apart from you does anyone else do any moderation anymore, whenever I read a topic and moderation is required its always your good self... hope they are paying you well! ;)

Having waded through this thread, and having worked on the railway for almost 20 years, it seems one of WCRC´s failings
most likely was post incident management responce and investigation.
Its a fact of life that things will go wrong (be it a SPAD or loco failure) , its what and how they are investigated and recorded and lessons learned that may very well be a big reason for NR saying enough was enough.
I wonder if WCRC have been audited in the past, having done many of these going back to Railtrack, they are not five minute jobs and do flag up short comings.

Having noted that I have posted an E-mail to Scotland's First Minister Ms Sturgeon, I have now received the following initial response :

I do wonder if Tangmere is going to be let out again given its the loco involved in the SPAD (though possibly not through the fault of the loco), as well as its dropped rod incident.

Wouldn't a DBS crew be needed for the diesel leg of the Statesmen Pullman on May 2nd as mentioned by Big Al a few pages back, from Weymouth to Hanwell (I assume that's where steam backs on/comes off) as well as a crew for the steam portion?

Also wasn't Jeremy Hosking looking at setting up his own TOC complete with stock to run with his mainline registered locos and he now has his own works facilities at Crewe.

Everyone keeps asking this question, in a hopeful-sounding manner (myself included!) but I don't know of anyone with any actual evidence of this. I suspect it's just wishful thinking...

No evidence as such, but we know he's buying up stock to be overhauled to mainline standards at crewe, he bought crewe, and he already has a shedful of locos...

My sentiments exactly. One the first posts I made on this thread was that people are quick to blame the locomotive. Even the rod incident wasn't necessarily the fault of the locomotive per se, as revealed by the RAIB investigation into that little episode.

For anyone interested, I think the most relevant RAIB reports/bulletins from the last three years are Greenford, Stafford and Norton-on-Tees. In fact I think these are the only SPAD reports, though there may be others in progress. The analysis, lessons learned and recommendations are all interesting.

    Of particular note was Stafford.

    https://www.gov.uk/raib-reports/signal-passed-at-danger-at-stafford

Which is an example of shockingly bad management and control, yet did not incur a suspension of access license.

I think that sentiment should be modified, there are some on this thread who are quick to blame anybody and everything, without knowing the true situation, they throw completely spurious comments/arguments into the mix and generally talk a load of bulls danglies.
I have recently talked informally to several railway employees from various sides, including NR, and they are of the same opinion in saying that my comment above sums it up very well. Quite a few of these people do watch what is going on here and 4 picked out the same 3 names as being the worst offenders. Read into that what you will, and if the caps fits just stand back and take stock.

It doesn't surprise me that unattributed second-hand comments by people in the steam and/or national rail business think that many comments on here are so far wide of the mark that they are out of sight. Is it not significant that some key people who occasionally visit the Forum, have knowledge and will definitely have a view are choosing not to comment?

That's wisdom in my view. My guess is that at some point either WCRC or NR will make a further statement. Then there will be more on which to reflect.

Given one or other of those as being the likely outcome, I think we should all be saying "WCRC, please get your act together pronto".

Exactly and the point being that why should NR or WCRC make a statement to us or anyone else at the moment, it's actually none of our business.
