The Battersby are top and tail with the Class 25 because the available paths don't have sufficient time for run-round at Battersby unfortunately, and when there is a Gala on and lots of locos needing water at Grosmont, it would be asking too much of the Platform 2 column, which can also be used from branch to Battersby, to service two steam locos on the Battersbys (we have done it twice this winter but there was no Grosmont to Pickering service on those occasions).

The internal WTT and the loco diagrams do not specify which locos; only G1, P1, etc.

I'd top and tail 2 paraffin cans on the Battersby runs, keep the steam for the main railway to Pickering.

I'm with you there, except D7628 is the only box that can go on NR I think at the present time. I view this as a waste of the steam loco that will be on the duty.

And miss out on 45mph running. Battersby is the main attraction for me with this, especially with the lack of copper caps now!

Surely you can never have too many copper caps.

As "something different" is surely what people want in Galas, the chance to have a steam hauled trip at higher than heritage line speeds to Battersby is surely a major draw? I know there are some even on the NYMR who don't think locos should disappear out there, but it is all part of the service offered and at the moment a pretty rare opportunity for running at some speed.

K4 was in steam when I passed the NRM about an hour ago.

Does the diesel hang on the back till, Battersby, or does it give assistance ?

"Lots of nice surprises", as Santa used to say! (At Grosmont, at any rate!)

K4 and Class 31 about to leave York this lunchtime.

DCR Class31 (arriving with 61994) would fit.

Phew. A second NR diesel hanging around Grosmont did make me uneasy!

Well done to everyone in organising this move though. 61994 + 62005 should have been at Buxton this w/e of course, so at least some benefit is is coming from the WCRC saga.

Timetable states 45407 on the, Battersby run. How many coaches will be on the hook ? Does the diesel assist on the climb to Lealholm ?
