In the summer of 1961 at Rugby Midland I saw Coronation Pacifics 46245 City of London and 46251 City of Nottingham double-headed on a down passenger working leaving platform 2 after a short stop. Both locomotives were in steam. Can anyone verify the date and details of the working? (I understand double-headed Coronation workings were very rare).

Not just rare - absolutely banned under the Rules. Admitedly, I have seen other Rules applied to the double heading with pacifics being flouted, such as the pacific had to be coupled inside the pilot, and the pilot loco must have a bogie (4-4-0, 4-6-0 or 2-6-4T), but never this one.
