    For those wondering where social media is , well its looking here at your comments .

    Whatever the case these are dark dark days for main line steam . The ramifications of this on so many levels are at the moment unthinkable . I did like @geekfindergeneral 's rather dark humour on the situation but I suspect it best sums it up . There are many really good people both at WCRC and at the tour operators and loco owners whose future is being played out by media at the moment

    Interesting. This article says that the ORR consultation started on Fri 17th April, 2 days after WCRC delivered their official response to NR's "7 points". My interpretation of the timing is that ORR were waiting to see that response, perhaps because they wanted to include it in their consultation documents. It would also explain why stories about this have emerged from various parts of the industry over the last couple of days.

    So now we wait and see what comes out of the consultation. We have seen David Smith's comments to RTC, passed on to their GB8 passengers in the letter posted last Wednesday, that he "expects" WCRC to work GB8 with steam as planned. Personally, I'd be quite surprised if WCRC are allowed to run trains themselves during the consultation period, but what do I know?

    The ORR indeed could.........on the other hand, they could not. There are two possible outcomes here, just like there were the moment that the ORR became involved. So with respect, I don't yet see what can be discussed until later in May - i.e. it's all much as we could infer when the suspension notice from NR was first announced.

    As someone else has already said, time for this thread to take an extended breather (IMO).

    For goodness sake. What planet are your members on? This article from the Railway Herald MUST be taken seriously. Otherwise, yet again, folk bury their heads in the sand, fearful of what lies ahead. Don't get me wrong, I want steam to continue as it has done in recent years but we are heading for a storm, a damaging one too. Let's hope the after effect is not too severe and that normal service can be resumed at some point but I fear it is months away. It is time to WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE.

    As Al says, what do you expect us to do about it? I for one am under no illusions as to the seriousness of the situation. We have no influence over anything, which is why there is speculation, and why such speculation should be kept under wraps until something more concrete comes forth. Short of a complete facsimile of the letter with address details, this will not happen until a full press statement is made, which might or might not have been given to Railway Herald. The next magazine is SR, so this should corroborate this. Even then, I refer you to my previous post that it is under 'consideration' pending the outcome of any evidence gathered, including the views of the rest of the industry. It is by no means cut and dry, so let's not fan the flames needlessly and let nature take its course on this.

    The ball has been in WCRC's court for the past year, and if their return volleys have recently kept hitting the net for whatever reason, then we are in no position to change things. We must remember that the main principle at stake here is railway safety, not the future of mainline steam- the latter just happens to be collateral damage because of the way the market has developed. It's unfortunate, even hard to stomach, but there it is- feast or famine. I just hope you made the most of it while it was there. And mine's Colombian...

    If that requirement was part of the NatPres safety certificate, the regulator would have us shut down immediately.
