During the delay one chap in Premier Dining starting making detailed enquiries about the kitchen car stove. How big was it? Was it bolted down? Gas or electric? etc. When asked why he replied "I'm looking for somewhere to start a tunnel"

I'm sorry Al, and I rarely disagree with your posts, but I see no reason why views shouldn't be expressed by people other than those on the train. I'm sure most of us have travelled on a mainline steam tour before, possibly even a previous Great Britain so are bound to compare what we may have experienced before with what we're reading about re this tour. Of course that's going to generate opinions, and why should they be expressed ?

What I just love is how no matter how much certain parties in this business "mess up", there is always a contingent on here that come leaping to their defence, while putting down others who have quite rightly spoken out against it.

Haven't been on here for a while but came back to follow the Ill fated GB8.
Having read through the last few pages I would like to suggest
Nat Pres should set up its own TOC.
There seem to be enough members who know how to run a rail tour
and cope with any and every possible contingency.

Pity you couldn't 0f (have) corrected some of the atrocious spelling then!

Ha, good one, but you better look at the thread on Auto Correct with smart devices etc. Doesn't seem to be much support for correct spelling / grammar on here. One has to wonder why.

The 'Command Centre' would probably look something like this

Any itinerary could be devised and all problems would be sorted via typing on a computer keyboard ;)

So today is Day 8 - what's the itinerary? Is anyone still clinging to the wreckage?

A friend of mine emailed me this:

"The GB8 in the Highlands sounds horrendous. Apparently the 158 on the Far North jolly (ahem service train) was delayed by the sheer volume of people on the train - wedged to the max apparently - so it seems numerous clowns carried on with the farce! They must be mad!"

And posted on another forum we have this:

"And if you thought it couldn't get any worse for them, a friend who is still with gb8 advised from yesterday those who decided to visit kyle had the road coach they were on fail and had to be rescued by the road coach behind"
