Thomas the Tank Engine is 70 today but not every parent likes him!

According to the Telegraph anyway. Probably something to do with "old fashioned values."

Many years ago I did get involved on discussions - strictly as a passenger/member on facilities on a well known paddle steamer.

It wasn't until the Chief Engineers wife refused to do long trips on it any more that the bogs were tackled.............

My parents were grateful for Thomas the Tank Engine - I got so enthusiastic about reading the books that I very happily learnt to read well before getting to school!
A large number of the children who come on visits to St Albans South signal box are Thomas fans - the majority are boys, but there are some girls as well.

No - the loco ran as 5407 in the 1970s............................

(Reminds me of a friend of mine who, having possibly been examining a photo of a very well known NYMR character in her Christmas guise as "principle boy" for the Panto themed Grosmont Santas, declared to the surprise of all present "I think that's Eric" - fortunately, he was referring to the neighbouring picture of a Black Five!)

Each to their own, I guess. I much prefer them to a pair of loco lamps!

Hmmm, two white's either side of the smokebox - looks like a North Cornwall Line head code to me!
