Lets look forward to some steam. For the foreseeable future, looks like most of it is going past my place! Clan Line to Bristol from VIC on 13th May is the next (almost) guaranteed steam. I assume it will be utilising part of the 09:43 VIC to Southampton Eastern Docks diagram round West London to Woking.

Lets hope the weather is good.

close enough to be handy. Does that route take it over the newly built Reading Alpine pass?

If it's going Berks & Hants route NO.
If it was going Didcot Swindon route it would.

On the return it will probably use the new underpass loop between Reading West and Main that has recently been opened.

Have to say that the West end of Reading looks a mess not helped by that concrete flyover, and not to mention the station itself with those ugly escalators on each platform. If only one could turn the clock back to the days of the GWR/WR with all its character. Dream on, I know.

A severe bottleneck and an inadequate station is the kind of character we can do without IMO, it needs tidying up after all the work but the end result and what it allows is pretty damn impressive in my eyes.

Many modern stations are inadequate as they lack accessible and clean toilets, comfortable and warm waiting areas, and refreshment facilities.

A station of any age can be inadequate, I didn't suggest otherwise.

It's 22 degrees and hot here in Camberley. I hope that there are no lineside fires!

Looks a good spot, never done it, I would guess it's as you leave Ascot and Martins Heron.
