Just as likely to be to cut down on the stop at Hellifield by reducing the shunting needed to swap locos.

I would guess 47237 was added at Carlisle because Galatea is a class 6 loco and had 11 coaches.

45699 looks to have been in good form.

No reason it can't stay with the train, if your running at 60MPH or below, no reason 45699 can't return to Carnforth loco only.

Why go to the trouble of moving it from the back of the train and putting it in behind the diesel at Carlisle and also why were two diesels used, what happened to 47760 at York?

The ECS is staying at York I believe, for Tuesday's Dalesman? I assume therefore it makes sense if the support coach just stays on the train until then,I gather 47760 and 47237 will be the diesels for The Dalesman diesel leg?

Hi Mark. Best wishes to you and your Dad. Argyle were rubbish in the play-offs unfortunately. But steam back on the mainline makes up for a teeny little bit. The diesel may be tucked in behind 45699 but it seems as dead as a dodo which is how is should be!

Same to you and family mate,I saw the match agains Wycombe the other night on TV....maybe next year!

As for the diesel (and this is info for others interested),it was notched on,probably taking it's weight in the main, not doing very much.

Might be same format for Dalesman/Fellsman if a Jubilee or 5 is rostered then?

Was the POB behind the 47 in the consist? Curious operation if so. Diesel engineers say its preferred not to have a steam piloting due to particulate from the kettle being inhaled by the diesel loco causing problems.
RTT indicated the outward leg didn't keep time so possibly the 47 was added as a precautionary measure with WCRC actions being judged at the moment.

Looks like the original plan was not to have diesel from Carlisle:

    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U50735/2015/05/16/advanced

then a later path was added for the diesel to go to Carlisle:

    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/O96957/2015/05/16/advanced

Agreed, that is extremely rare with WCRC for diesel to be "inside" rather than on back. Hope this is not the "brave new world"!

Suggests a change of plan was required. As was mentioned above, not much chance of finding out what impelled it. Hopefully a one off and not standard practice on S&C now. Perhaps the inspector commented on the load, route and loco factors during the outward leg?

I think most of the Waverleys last year had diesel inside on the return, there as opposed to on the back to aid shunting at Hellifield as I understood. Hope this doesn't happen with the Dalesmans. Guess it wouldn't with Fellsmans as there's no shunting involved.

Shouldn't have been a loading issue for a Class 6 unless there was an issue with Galatea. She seemed fine on the videos. Bit of a mystery. Hope its not the future. Not worth getting out of bed for.

Well,I'm glad you aren't in charge of whether steam runs on the mainline then!
