A late summer return in the guise of 34052 'Lord Dowding' to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain has been mentioned in the railway press. Whether it runs before that as itself remains to be seen.

Thanks, well that does sound like Tangmere is going to be the mainstay loco for the RDs. That said, you could be right re Britannia. We know Tornado is booked for the 12th July TE, so the Brit would be well placed for the same day's RD. As far as I can see her next scheduled booking is the 19/07 CE to Kingswear from Taunton so seems likely she'll remain at Barton Hill following the TE prior to the 12/07

I will probably leave that trip then. I don't have much luck with 34067 on Railtours.

I read in one of the mags that she is due back in September as they found more boiler work was required than expected. I can't wait for her to return, we need another SR pacific to fill the 35028 space.

Interesting. RTT states Electric and Diesel. What has happened to steam?

    Does RTT ever show steam?

As I understand it, it is usually shown as diesel, often freight, as I don't think Network Rail's system is programmed to deal with steam hauled pathing. And showing it as freight is a way for them to allow for the slower acceleration rate of a steam hauled train compared to a diesel powered passenger train.

Happy to be corrected, but that's my understanding.

Galatea now out and about for the Cumbrian Coast Express on Saturday 30th. Les Ross not on the electric leg - a Class 90 replaces. No stop at Carlisle. Two small stops at Sellafield and Preston. Going to be a loooooooonnnnnnnggggggg day for those travelling from EUS with minimal leg stretches - 16 hours on the train!

Spectacular Cumbrian Coast views and a romp over Shap en route.

Interesting and welcome development that Jubilee now gauged for the coast. Previous wisdom was that only 8f and 46115 would fit, the latter having had its cab lowered in order to do so. Maybe 45699 has been adjusted too.

A recent press report indicated 46115 had a problem with its middle cylinder.

Bit worried about the switch to northbound via Shap. We're on the Brit which only seems to be 15 minutes behind the CCE at Carnforth North. The way 45699 has performed on Grayrigg in the past it will be hard pushed to keep out of the way. Anyone know what the loading is?

15 minutes and closing, 8 minutes at Tebay and just 6 at Penrith.

Hopefully the loading on the CCE will be enough to warrant diesel assistance under the new WCRC regime! ;-)
