Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but, when visiting the Ffestiniog on Wednesday 27th. May I found a Velbon Tripod Ball Head attached to a hand grip in the waiting shelter at Dduallt. If anyone has lost one please contact me and I'll be happy to post it to the owner

Of course, you could have handed it in at one of our stations as 'Lost Property' - so making it easier for its owner to find it, rather than hoping that it belongs to someone on this forum... Just a thought..!

Agreed, the owner is likely to be just someone on a day out and is now unlikely to be re-united with their property. Also if someone 'claims' it after reading on here how do you know they are genuine now that you have described it, you could have at least just said some photography equipment.

I have sent an e-mail to the Societies magazine asking if may be possible to put a note in the next copy to see if it belongs to a member of the FR. On my next visit to the line in a few weeks I will bring the item with me and hand it in then if it hasn't been claimed. From the tone of your comments I think it would have been better had I left it where it was for someone else to pick up.

The item has a serial number on it which I will ask any claimant to quote before I return it. As I mentioned in my reply to Roger Dimmock, I was merely trying to be helpful not wishing to generate smart comments. The item will be handed in at the FR on my next visit

Err, I merely pointed out that the simplest thing to have done was hand in the item as Lost Property. The railway is the logical place that people would contact to track down mislaid items on occasions like this...

I couldn't quote the serial number from any of my tripod heads - so I'd be bugg'red if I lost one and the only chance of it being returned by the finder is if I could quote the serial num!
Let's hope for the owner's sake the railway's lost property department is a bit more flexible when it comes to ID.

Wrong choice of words on my part, the head carries a model number, rather than a serial number and I would therefore assume the owner would know which model they had bought.

    Ah yes, indeed, I'd agree.
Although not off the top of my head, I could soon find the model number for three of the heads.
...The Miller head I wouldn't be able to, but that's so heavy I'd notice if I wasn't carrying that home! ;) Lol

Let's hope one way or another the equipment and its owner are eventually reunited :)
