    Only 72 through Warrington? That's a bit pedestrian! ;)

Nice write up though, thanks for sharing.

Thankyou for your informative reply Bob, I think the bit of your post I've quoted seems to be the operative bit.

Hold on, who's missing the blindingly obvious ?, I wanted to know why there was a disparity between WCRC operated trains, Bob has answered that, wanting to know why one promoter is enforcing it and others are not is not being oblivious to why the promoter enforcing it have done so, my point was surely it should be all WCRC operations doing it or none, there shoulden't be a disparity.

Beings that you KNOW ALL of this now, best get yourself over there and sort them out; they obviously don't know who they are messing with!! No point blathering on about a storm in a coach vestibule ad infinitum if you are not going to do something about it!! Let's see some action.

    Cheers

completely sad I know, but there are two mini versions of the same clip above which you can know sync, the jube is working harder than the brit and clearly outpaces it in the upper part of the climb...

There's a hornets' nest being prodded here by one or two individuals. Bob Meanley has stated the reasons why Vintage Trains feel obliged to enforce a long-standing instruction but for folk on here to start highlighting the differences between operators at a time when mainline steam charters are under close scrutiny isn't going to help their cause I'm afraid. In the old days, if you were caught doing something you shouldn't be doing, you accepted the reprimand with good grace and shuffled off to wait for the storm to pass. Best let it lie, in my opinion..

Now can we claim this thread back for its rightful subject!

Well said Mr rule55, yesterday we saw a quite incredible event that was certainly not expected; what are the chances of a planned repeat, that is, at a speed commensurate with normal traffic requirements?

    Cheers

No chance ! Someone is going to getting a rocket, after what happened, Saturday. At one stage there were three trains on the bank.

Not Guilty! Just needed to stand up in my seat and look through the quarterlights. Never went near a window all day, honest, guv!

Peter in Manchester, honest as the day is long, and indeed it is a fine sunny evening!

But can you imagine the shame of being looped for a steam excursion to pass?

I think that it was WCRC's previous safety case.

It was pretty clear that the Brit was being held back and that it was opened up once the driver saw a less restrictive aspect. To accelerate on a 1 in 75 with 11 one shows a machine in top condition and excellent driving skills, especially given the tendency for any pacific to sit down on its trailing pony truck. If Galatea had bad coal that does seem very risky as it is the weaker of the twins at Carnforth and WCRC would hardly want one of their beasts to sit down on the WCML and then be banked by the Brit!

To accelerate on the 1:75 with 11 on. That's what the Duke did in 1995 when speed fell to 50...As for being looped by steam? Well I recall 46203 being looped just out of Sheffield for class 47 cross country to pass, only for it to fail at Ambergate requiring us to undertake on the inside via the loop. Also 6024 heading south from Derby, Past Time Rail (?) announcement that 'we're going to catch up that HST' which we duly did after it failed at Burton-on-Trent, with much tooting as we passed it on the goods line. Even Sir Lamiel overtaking a looped Networker at Kent House. It can happen...
